Good adventure but narration threw me off

Good story in an interesting setting. The narration didn’t project the rough situation nor the tenacity and toughness of main characters. It was read more in the style of Mr Rogers than that of a virile tough guy in the wilderness. Like a documentary instead of a suspense drama in the wild.
