Publisher's summary

"You must allow me to tell you..."

For over 200 years, Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy has captivated readers' imaginations as the ultimate catch. Rich. Powerful. Noble. Handsome. And yet, as Miss Austen's Pride and Prejudice is established through Elizabeth Bennet's fine eyes, how are we to know his mind? How does Darcy progress from "she is tolerable: but not handsome enough to tempt me" to "I thought only of you"?

In this romance anthology, 15 Austenesque authors assemble to sketch Darcy's character through a series of reimaginings, set in the Regency through contemporary times - from faithful narratives to the fanciful. In The Darcy Monologues, the man himself reveals his intimate thoughts, his passionate dreams, and his journey to love - all told with a previously concealed wit and enduring charm.

Critic reviews

"Since he's fictional, this is the closest I can get to have him whispering in my ear sweet nothings and thoughts I imagined Mr. Darcy would say." —Of Pens and Pages

"Think of The Darcy Monologues as your JAFF gateway drug. Don't worry, experts agree; it lowers anxiety, increases imagination, and is very good for health." —Period Drama Madness

"...there really is something here to suit all tastes, and to delight any diehard Darcy fan." —Joceline Bury, Jane Austen Regency World Magazine

"Frost captures Darcy's tone perfectly, bringing a heart and soul to the character that readers get only a glimpse of in the original novel. The remaining half of the audiobook contains stories from other eras, reimagining Darcy as a baseball player, a school principal, and an Old West traveler, to name but a few. Frost portrays everything from New York sophisticate to grizzled cowboy, never falling into caricature. A delightful listening experience." —AudioFile Magazine

If you like Darcy this is for you!

Lots of good and creative alternatives to the original story. My fave was the one where you hear Darcy editing his famous letter to Elizabeth- funny plus sweet too.

Recapturing the essence of a classic love story

First, let me say the narration is perfect. When listening to Jane Austen retellings, who would want to listen to anyone other than a British storyteller who sounds like Mr. Darcy (think Colin Firth). Each story is different with its own take on the timeless literary classic.

Excellent!

First of all, I loved the book when I read it, but Harry Frost has an amazing voice. I like several female narrators in the JAFF space, but I must say, I am listening to this every night before bed and Harry's voice has become Darcy. It is perfectly delightful and I am loving every single minute of it. I hope he narrates Rakes and Rogues as well.

The Darcy Monologues as a book is just great. I love seeing how so many authors view different facets of his character and bring him to life in new and interesting ways. No matter how many I read, I always want more and this book truly delivers.

Great stories, wonderful narrator

I loved the book, and I was curious about the audiobook. All the stories are very well written with excellent plots. A box of little gems, something beautiful for different tastes. I'm a fan of Regency stories, but different era and modern ones were great as well.

The narrator was wonderful. his voice suited Mr. Darcy very well, and his portrayal of other characters was very good as well. Great listening experience.

Highly recommended for any JAFF reader and audiobook lover.

What a GREAT book!

I will not summarize all of the stories because there are too many, but will say if you like Pride and Prejudice and have ever wondered what really made Mr. Darcy "tick", THIS is the book for you! This group of authors captured Darcy's character, thought process, passions, and values perfectly. It is one of the best collections of short stories I have read.

Harry Frost's narration and take on both Darcy and the other characters made this book so enjoyable! I will listen to more of Mr. Frost's narrations!

This book was given to me and I voluntarily am leaving this honest review.

The perfect Mr Darcy performance!

Amidst an extraordinary field of talented voice actors, Harry Frost is Incomparable! His rich voice and excellent pacing made for the perfect Mr Darcy! However, in a huge multi-era project like “The Darcy Monologues”, Frost really shines, showing his range and imagination, by immersing himself in a cast of many (from Regency England to modern day United States) in this fifteen-story anthology. He is an enthusiastic narrator, bringing a nuanced, honest performance to each character. Loved listening to these great stories performed by such talent!

Darcy’s POV

What a delightful listen thanks to the wonderful narrator! I was surprised that I liked the modern variations, the Beauty and the Beast version in addition to the traditional versions. I really think there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Great sampling of P&P authors whose books I will look for. Many of the stories left me wanting for a longer version because they were very engaging. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Whole Book of Darcy!

Just as the title of this review says, a whole book of Darcy. A collection of stories from the perspective of one of the most crushed on man (who cares that he is fictional) of all time, Fitzwilliam Darcy.

The stories are set in a variety of times and places. Some put events of Jane Austen's original story into Darcy's perspective, or continued the story after they were married. There were a couple that set it in different historical time periods like the Wild West & WWII. There were a few modern retellings, and one completely fantastical story.

I loved most of them. There were a couple I didn't care for, but on three whole really well done. The reader had a great voice, and made all the different Darcy's sound so luscious.

I thoroughly enjoyed the best majority

The only pieces I skipped over were those where I knew I didn't have an interest (ODC in the wild west, Darcy as a base ball player, and most of the other contemporary pieces--although not all. I liked the one where Darcy rescues (ish) Elizabeth from a disastrous date with Collins in which there were a lot of martinis involved, so she called Bingley for a ride and got Darcy. I liked the bit at the end when Darcy headed a restaurant conglomerate and the Elizabeth character ran a local farm). Over all, it was perfect being able to listen to such different pieces from Darcy's POV as I worked on various tasks and between others.
