Publisher's summary

A "wondrously frightening" (Publishers Weekly) tale of terror and number-one national best seller about a writer's pseudonym that comes alive and destroys everyone on the path that leads to the man who created him.

Thad Beaumont would like to say he is innocent. He'd like to say he has nothing to do with the twisted imagination that produced his best-selling novels. He'd like to say he has nothing to do with the series of monstrous murders that keep coming closer to his home. But how can Thad deny the ultimate embodiment of evil that goes by the name he gave it - and signs its crimes with Thad's bloody fingerprints?

The Dark Half is "a chiller" (The New York Times Book Review), so real and fascinating that you'll find yourself squirming in Stephen King's heart-stopping, blood-curdling grip - and loving every minute of it.

Top 5

I have around 26 or so SK titles under my belt and I didn’t want to pull the trigger on a shorter book. I have a hour drive to work. I have had my eye on the book for a long time and finally gave. This book is definitely in my top 5 along with Salems Lot. Look forward to venturing back around to it in the future.

character duality

The story grips you at the beginning, and keeps you strapped in till the end. when it comes, you can't believe that the story is over.

The Death of a Pseudonym

“The sparrows, are flying again.”

Everyone knows this story: Stephen King wrote Carrie, didn’t like it, and threw it away. His wife found it, rescued it, and told him to get it published. The rest of his career was history, and we now have one of the greatest horror writers ever. After a few books, and his name getting bigger, he started wondering if his fame was a fluke and if he had what it took to become a bestseller again. Thus, the name Richard Bachman was born. From that, name we have hit books such as The Long Walk, Rage, and Thinner. Bachman was never able to hit the heights that King did, but he still fared pretty well for being a pseudonym.
Until one day, after Thinner was released, someone placed the pieces together and discovered that King and Bachman were the same person. Everyone now knew that Bachman was King and he was able to rerelease all the titles under his real name.
He later wrote a book called The Dark Half that was based on what he went through in real life. We are introduced to the character of Thad Beaumont. Thad is an author who actually has more success with publishing under a pseudonym than his real name. When he got found out, he decided to have a fake funeral for his pseudonym and from there the story really begins.
Soon, his pseudonym comes to life as George Stark urging Thad to keep writing.

In typical King fashion, we have a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride of a novel. From the first chapter all the way to the epic showdown, this book never loses steam, and is at a constant 100MPH.
This book is part of King’s Castle Rock series, with some mentions of his other books. It is a stand-alone book, but these books do tend to reference each other, so beware of minor spoilers.

If you are looking for a fun, quick read from the King of Horror, look no further and grab yourself a copy of The Dark Half by Stephen King.
