classic Victorian stories of mystery and horror

No Sherlock Holmes here, but nice selection of Sir Arthur's darker imagination. They are mostly mysteries, and they are gruesome only by Victorian standards, but interesting and atmospheric. The performer is clear and pleasant to listen to, and except for a few recording goofs, the production is well done. I will warn anyone who is sensitive to the causal racism of the Victorians they might skip this volume. Sir Arthur isn't racist but he refers to the general insensitivity of his generation in the Black Doctor, though the story actually turns quickly to political correctness in the beginning. Also the Jews Breastplate refers to ancient Jewish artifacts and racism doesn't come in at all. Overall I was very pleased with the stories.
