About this listen

Mildred Kilgore and Earlynne Biddle are planning to open a bakery on the square - if they can come up with the right recipes. Charlie Dickens faces two of the biggest puzzles of his career as an investigative reporter, and one of them involves his wife. Cute little Cupcake's talent as a singer and dancer makes her a tempting target for an unscrupulous exploiter. Lizzy must enlist the Dahlias to protect her while she herself is confronted by a romantic puzzle. And Sheriff Norris is forced to reopen a puzzling mystery that the town thought was solved.

Once again, New York Times best-selling author Susan Wittig Albert takes us to a place where real people have courage, respect their neighbors, and dream of doing their best, even when they're not sure what that is. She reminds us that Christmas is a celebration of friendship, community, and what's right with the world. There's nothing puzzling about that.

Reading group questions, recipes, and Depression-era background are available at DarlingDahlias.com.

Another charming story from Darling

Ms. Albert once again brings in characters we can care about and enjoy mixed with education on the life and times of the depression era which is only hopeful in the hands of the wonderful community of Darling. I eagerly await the next book to see where these people I’ve grown so fond of will go next.

The narration is superb as well. She perfectly captures the personality of each inhabitant.

It’s worth it to start at the beginning of the series to work your way through to this latest edition, but it can stand on its own. This is a consummate lovely light cozy.

Spending Another Visit Catching Up w/ The Darling Dahlias

I find reading this series like getting a long letter from a dear old friend. The various plots in this book were interesting and not too detailed. The personalities of the characters are true and evolved over the series. You care about them and share in their dilemmas. Looking fir a cozy? I recommend this series very highly.

Love This Series

If you love Fannie Flagg, then you will love this series as well. The series revolves around a small town in Alabama during the Depression with a mystery to unravel in each book. The characters are all people that you would want to have as neighbors - even the obnoxious ones. This latest entry has a more serious mystery than usual, but the author manages to keep it from getting too dark. #Small Town #Depression #Nostalgic #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Love the Dahlias

I am a diehard fan of China Bayles so when I had binged the whole series while sewing I was distraught. What to do? I tried the first of the Dahlias and I was hooked. The characters are well developed and the plot twists are terrific. The only problem is that I have listened to all of them, also! Please Ms. Albert, may we have some more?
