In A.D. 31 to 32 jealousies and grudges fester among Annas’ family of chief priests who rule over the Jerusalem temple. Disunity and distrust simmer and at times boil up into open hatred between the rival sects of the Jews, the Sadducees and the Pharisees. But they find common ground in their desire to overthrow the followers of Jesus, whom they crucified. The first Christians then find themselves threatened repeatedly by the intrigues of those Jewish chief priests and rulers that finally erupt into the killing of the first of them. Unbeknown to one of the chief priests, his daughter is secretly becoming involved with one of the hated Christians whom he aims to destroy, while his own house slaves are her friends and confidants. Meanwhile, the lowliest of Jews rises up to become one of the most beloved of the Christians and ardent defenders of their faith. And from the ranks of the believers in Jesus rise up the women whose acts of kindness and labors of love meet the needs of so many, including the apostles, whose personal lives and family relationships are tried and tested to the extreme.
