In this collection of short stories, you will find a little bit of everything. Some are nonfiction, based on events that actually happened; some are fiction; and one of the stories is actually sort of a combination of fiction and nonfiction. The stories cover a wide genre range. There are a couple of stories set in Biblical times; adventures I had in my youth (it’s a wonder I’m still alive); a gripping story of how my father-in-law was rescued from the jaws of death; one children’s story I wrote for my grandkids; and a fictional story about two strangers, who are experiencing difficult times and grow to rely on one another for much-needed encouragement. Things get complicated when the two inadvertently become fond of one another.
The story in this collection that evokes the fondest memories for me is my recollections of the many adventures I had deer and elk hunting with my father and other family members, near my hometown, Howard, Colorado. My dad was taken from us by cancer at the young age of 59, and now I really cherish those memories I have of our many hunting adventures together. I’m glad I got to experience those happy times with him before he left this world.
The last two stories in the book are Western fiction stories set in the 1800’s. The first is a murder mystery, taking place in Black Hawk, Colorado; the second is a heartwarming story about an old prospector and his willingness to sacrifice his well-being for a much-loved niece. This story takes place in and around Globe, Arizona.
