Publisher's summary
Greetings! Welcome to the Language Magic™ dual-language learning series. After you’ve learned the basics from the classroom or one of the many excellent language learning programs out there, it's time to get fluent!
It’s true that gaining fluency with a language is a big hill to climb. But it’s also true that there are different ways to climb that hill. The fastest way is total immersion. Live in country. But most of us can’t do that.
What’s the next best approach? Stories. Audiobooks. But that’s a struggle if you don’t know what is being said.
With our dual-language audiobooks, Language Magic™ bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be. The story alternates continuously between your native language and the language you’re learning.
Get fluent the fun and easy way!
Discover that you can relax and enjoy the story while absorbing the language as you listen, and you can listen to it over and over until you find you can understand it completely in the language you are learning.
The Raven, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Tell-Tale Heart are some of Poe’s most famous works. These dual-language versions of The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell-Tale Heart from Language Magic™ are original translations optimized to aid language learners on the fast-track to fluency.
The version of The Raven was translated by Juan Antonio Pérez Bonalde in 1887, and while beautiful, language learners may find it more difficult. Bonalde took poetic license to make the rhyme and meter align with the English. Hence, with this work, Bonalde’s Spanish translation of the English carries the overall meaning and spirit of the passage, but it doesn’t track the English as closely as it does in our other dual-language offerings.
If you are learning English, we recommend you use the version of the story that leads with your native language, so you hear each sentence in your native language, followed by the language you are learning.
All foreign language translators, editors, and narrators are native speakers. Great care was taken with the translation to ensure fidelity to Latin American Spanish.
For children and adults of all ages who are learning Spanish.

Story
Edgar Allan Poe elevated the gothic story, developed the unreliable narrator, recast psychological terror, and reveled in both the horror and the supernal beauty of death. From Poe's rich, unrivaled imagination comes a collection of his most masterful works, including "The Black Cat", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and, of course, "The Tell-Tale Heart". Each story explores morbid themes of grief, greed, fear, and guilt, and together they embody Poe's grotesque obsessions...even the dread of being buried alive.

Story
Each story explores a different twist of madness, murder, and melancholy, from the horror of being buried alive in "The Fall of the House of Usher" to the desperate case of two gruesome killings in "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." The heartbeat of paranoia in "The Tell-Tale Heart," the razor-sharp claustrophobia in "The Pit and the Pendulum," and a mourner's torment in "The Raven" reveal - and revel in - life's creepiest and craziest. These tales are not for the faint of heart or the thin of skin.

In the grotesque bell-ringer Quasimodo, Victor Hugo created one of the most vivid characters in classic fiction. Quasimodo's doomed love for the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda is an example of the traditional love theme of beauty and the beast. Yet, set against the massive background of Notre Dame de Paris and interwoven with the sacred and secular life of medieval France, it takes on a larger perspective.

Story
The classic fantasy that influenced C. S. Lewis and Tolkien, considered one of George MacDonald's most important works, is the story of the young man, Anodos, and his adventures in fairyland which ultimately reveal the human condition. "I write, not for children," wrote George MacDonald, "but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or 50, or 75." All-at-once written with an innocent whimsy and soulful yearning, the heart of Anodos' journey through fairyland reveals a spiritual quest that requires a surrender of the self.

Story
Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula - the pinnacle of Gothic horror for generations - rises again. When young English lawyer Jonathan Harker arrives in Transylvania on the eve of Saint George's Day, he cannot shake a strange feeling of uneasiness. The air grows colder as he arrives at his destination: the castle of Count Dracula. Jonathan has been summoned by the count for business, and while he finds his new host obliging and polite, he can't help but notice the man's pallid skin, odd lack of appetite, and long daytime absences.

Story
A wildly comic send-up of Irish literature and culture, At Swim-Two-Birds is the story of a young, lazy, and frequently drunk Irish college student who lives with his curmudgeonly uncle in Dublin. When not in bed (where he seems to spend most of his time) or reading, he is composing a mischief-filled novel about Dermot Trellis, a second-rate author whose characters ultimately rebel against him and seek vengeance. From drugging him as he sleeps to dropping the ceiling on his head, these figures of Irish myth make Trellis pay dearly for his bad writing.

Story
In the grotesque bell-ringer Quasimodo, Victor Hugo created one of the most vivid characters in classic fiction. Quasimodo's doomed love for the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda is an example of the traditional love theme of beauty and the beast. Yet, set against the massive background of Notre Dame de Paris and interwoven with the sacred and secular life of medieval France, it takes on a larger perspective.

Story
Ingersoll Lockwood invented the fictional character Baron Trump in 1890 for a two-part sci-fi/fantasy series about a privileged German heir who undertakes a sequence of fantastic voyages. The style of the Baron Trump series - a mix of fantasy and young-reader-oriented science fiction - anticipated and may have influenced L. Frank Baum's Oz series. The Travel and Adventures of Little Baron Trump describes Baron's trip around the world with his little dog, meeting new races like the Wind Eaters, Man Hoppers, and Melodious Sneezers.
