About this listen

Barry...

No one said he had to be nice to the woman who had singlehandedly destroyed his hopes of ever securing the dukedom from his much older and far too boring cousin, John Pettygrove, Duke of Snowley. But Barrington Chapple, Marquess of Ryde, has never accepted defeat, whether it is on the battlefield, at the card table, or in the bedroom. Will he find a way to win the prize he seeks...and maybe the one he comes to crave?

Lottie...

The gods must hate her! Charlotte had never set her cap at any man, like her three younger sisters had done, and what had it gotten her? An arranged marriage to a man more than twice her age and a title she could live without. But as the oldest and still unmarried daughter of Nigel Hawthorne, she had little choice in the matter. Still, what could be worse than marrying an older man to whom one is not in the least attracted? How about falling in love with his cousin and heir?

Suitable for ages 18 and older only due to explicit scenes.

Great to listen to

My first Regency in Audible. It was a treat to listen to. The story could have been more fleshed out as there was enough substance to handle it. The characters were engaging, but there were leaps in time that were unaccounted for. That made it not as smooth as it should have been. The performance was interesting to listen to, though I felt the narrator did not do it full justice — she didn’t always read fluently. However, it didn’t detract too much from the overall effect.

It is very shallow and superficial.

What disappointed you about The Duchess's Affair?

The two main characters were not very deep. But it was OK.

Would you ever listen to anything by Katherine Heart and Historical Deluxe again?

Not sure.

What didn’t you like about Ginny Ross’s performance?

She was a monotonous reader. I think that she could have done a better job breathing life into the characters.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It might be better if more attention was paid on developing the characters.
