Miss Prudence Canton loves her quiet life in the country, caring for her ailing father and their beloved horses. She's become adept at fending off the advances of gentlemen until a bold stranger named Lord Woodleigh makes a visit to the stables. For a brief moment lust takes over, but Prudence's father, and his gun, find them before things get out of hand. Now, in order to pay for those stolen kisses, Lord Woodleigh is forced to find a husband for the woman whose reputation he himself nearly ruined. But matchmaking proves difficult as Prudence and Woodleigh slowly realize that their moment of passion could possibly become much, much more.

Short and sweet

The 2 main characters, Prudence Canton & Lord Woodleigh, are so witty. Their banter battles were the best as they fought to ignore their growing attraction. This author managed to put a lot of story in a short piece. There’s little focus on their physical attributes, which is unusual, especially in romances, but such a delightful change. Therefore, the focus of Prudence & Lord Woodleigh’s attraction was centered on other things like just being likeable, the sound of laughter, and other qualities. Both main characters were very likeable, but I enjoyed Prudence the most. She was strong, realistic, and self-possessed.
As the short story continues, an unforeseen issue is revealed which adds a bit of depth to Prudence & Lord Woodleigh’s coming together, though the issue is not really flushed out. More could’ve been done with it, but it was no great loss to the story.
The only downside is that it all came together a bit too easily and abruptly, but it was to be expected, especially in light of how short the story is. Still, the ending was smile-worthy. There was no sex in the story, just kissing, light petting and language expressing desire. And the narrator did a very good job.
Good No-sex Historical Romance
