About this listen

Denise Fallon is tired. Not a unique feeling for a 24-year-old surviving late-stage capitalism. Only thing is, she’s been 24 for 67 years. At 91, she should be playing bingo in a nursing home in Florida, taking long naps, and bitching about her children not calling. Instead, she’s still navigating how to function with her dysfunctional friends, managing decades of shared grief, and then there’s the love she’s avoided for over half a century. Honestly, it’s a bit much.

But when faced with the prospect of letting go of the immortality she and her friends stumbled into, Fallon has to decide if she’s tired enough to quit or if she’s only just getting started.

Addie LaRue meets Grey Gardens in this New England gothic that asks, do you have what it takes to live forever?

There is so much packed into a small space. The story was beautifully written. The narrator, Heather Daniel, masterfully crafted a handful of characters. The rawness of friendship, heartache, anger, love, loss, and banter were all delivered by the narrator. Also, this is a little snack of an audiobook. I did yard work while listening, using it as a timer to finish working for the day. Wins all around. Highly recommended.

This story was unlike any other I've come across. I love how the author bounced from present to past and back to present. I love how the narrator was able to immerse me in the story completely, invoking emotions of panic and sorrow and joy. I laughed out loud at several parts, as well as had tears in my eyes at other parts. I gasped, I cried, I loved it. I feel like the narration was excellent--I didn't feel like there were extra sounds (I am kind of picky with narrators because I have auditory sensory issues) and I loved the velvet-like smoothness of her voice. She switched between characters SO well, it was never hard to keep up with which character was talking or narrating. overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book--the narration, the writing, the aura of it all. It was haunting and quite lovely.

eery and lovely
