About this listen

The Emerald Tablet—an ancient document that contains the essence of the alchemical teachings—has had an important influence on many Western spiritual and religious traditions. Ostensibly concerned with turning base metals into gold, alchemy was in fact dedicated to transforming the lead of self into the gold of spirit. This brilliant history of alchemy traces its sources back to ancient Egypt, and presents alchemy as a useful, practical system of self-transformation. Each of the seven steps of alchemical transformation is explained, with hands-on techniques and exercises, treating alchemy as a living discipline for achieving a spiritual awakening.

Some very interesting research and personal stories, a few mistakes, such as calling the book Iron John by Robert Bly, Ironman by John Bly. But the real problem with this audio is the constant mispronunciation. It sounds like bad AI that can’t tell the difference between when lead should be sounded as leed or led (as in the metal), which comes up frequently, including numerous other examples—and the basic concept of proper inflection and timing made it very difficult to finish. Better to read the book for oneself.

Good material, terribly read

I loved the book and content. It's takes a somewhat complicated and mystical subject and boils it down to something that a newbie can understand, but still provides a lot of deep information that leaves you feeling like you understand hermeticism at a basic level, but you want to listen to it again for a greater saturation. Although, it could just be the terrible AI narration that makes me want to listen to it again... seriously though, the AI narration is really bad. It's too bad they list "Barry Morrison" as the narrator. I don't know who that is, but if that's the name they've given this AI, I'll avoid all future books narrated by this name. It's not even a good AI narrator. It butchers almost every name and creates pauses in places that are very awkward and making you have to jump 10 seconds back to listen again.

Amazing book, but AI narration is bad

Great information, too bad the narrator was AI. Monotone with lots of mispronounciations. Such poor treatment for an excellent author!

An unfortunate AI narration.

Great book, but totally ruined by the reader. Sounds like bad text-to-speech. Stay away from this one!

Horrible reader
