Too often, we pathologize everything that doesn't fit neatly in the boxes we create rather than helping everyone BE themselves and DO what they love. This book offers practical activities you can do with your ADHD child that can help you, your child, and your relationship. Adults who support their children make all the difference in the world, theirs and yours.
Learning to self-regulate and focus is really helpful. Creativity and hyperfocus are superpowers. Working with these superpowers rather than forcing them into the classroom box or the "normal" box is such a precious gift you can give your children! Their energy levels help them excel in sports and other active behaviors. Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience are different gifts that ADHD children and adults experience.
My favorite part was the strong focus on creativity. 98% of children score at the genius level of creativity. After they start school, this declines substantially. Adults test at 2%. If children can be supported for their creativity superpower, our world would be a different place.

I especially liked the way it framed ADHD as something to understand and work with—not “fix.” There are helpful insights on behavior, routines, communication, and even how to take care of yourself as a parent (which we all need reminders about). If you’re looking for something supportive and actionable, this one’s worth the listen.

I picked this up out of curiosity and to better understand some kids in our circle who deal with ADHD. While my own child doesn’t have it, I still found the parenting strategies surprisingly useful especially around routines, patience, and managing emotional outbursts. It gave me a new level of empathy and a few tools I didn’t know I needed. If you’re around kids with different needs, this is a solid resource to have.
