Publisher's summary

Virginia had experienced the power and direction of the five stones; now, she would need to use them again.

For entirely different reasons.

Keeping her marriage together was not the only thing on her mind. Having a child wasn't going to happen in the usual way, and Virginia was determined that adoption was the answer. If she did all of the right things, said all of the right words; if she remembered the five stones in her journey to get her child, God would surely have to answer her.

It wouldn't be too difficult.

Enjoyed the 2nd book in the series

After reading the first book in this series, I couldn't wait for the second one. I wasn't disappointed. The characters are very realistic and I love the story line that parallels the parables in the Bible. I wanted more to happen in this book, but it didn't. Hopefully those things will happen in the next book. The author and narrator both did amazing jobs. I can't wait for the next one!

Excellent Audio Book

If you could sum up The Feast in three words, what would they be?

Story of Faith

Who was your favorite character and why?

Virginian Green, she has all the facets of a real person. I could empathise with her, cheer for her, cry with her.

Which character – as performed by Nancy Peterson – was your favorite?

Virginia Green

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Trial of Faith

Any additional comments?

In The Feast Virginia Bean from Idaho Falls, Idaho, is now the wife of Richard Green. Richard owns a bakery and bakes magnificent cupcakes, which Virginia loves to eat. She helps Richard at the bakery shop and is quite happy with her life until five years into their marriage, when her happiness wanes.

Instead of feeling whole and satisfied with herself and her marriage, she feels restless. Something is missing in her life that will make her feel a complete person once again. She finds herself becoming lethargic and only wanting to sleep, all of her energy has gone and she has become depressed.

What Virginia discovers is that she wants a baby, bad. It’s not that she and Richard have not been trying, they have. Their doctor suggests they not try so hard to have Virginia conceive, which doesn’t work. So Virginia and Richard decide to go down the path of adoption. It is a decision that puts them at odds with one another and their faith in god.

I found the book a joy to listen to. The situations that Virginia and Richard face I’m sure all readers will recognize as ones they have faced themselves. Time and again god puts different challenges in the couple’s way, as if he were testing them to see if they were true believers in him. Each time they are challenged Virginia and Richard rise to greater heights in their love for each other and god.

Nancy Peterson once again does a magnificent job with the narration, as she did in Conquering Your Goliaths. Her voice relaxes the listener and adds to the texture of the story.

This is an excellent audio book, one that explores all avenues of a person’s faith in god.

Beautiful Sequel

Would you listen to The Feast again? Why?

Yes; along with Jones' previous book, I'd love to listen with a notebook handy to write down the parts that especially speak Truth.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters were easy to relate to and I know their situation is one that many readers will connect with. Their expectations near the beginning went through a dose of reality that was difficult and frustrating for them; I know I've had the same happen to me. I appreciate how the characters learn and grow throughout the book.

Which scene was your favorite?

Without giving too many spoilers - when Richard calls Virginia and asks her to come to the hospital. The entire scene was so tender and showed their love for each other and for the others in their lives.

Any additional comments?

This was an excellent sequel to Conquering Your Goliaths. I loved seeing Virginia as she dealt with very real situations of trying to love her spouse in spite of struggles and wondering where God is when He's silent.

Nancy Peterson does a great job as narrator, and I was glad to see her return for this book.

As before, Jones has created characters that have both positive traits and faults, making them believable and relatable. The ending is simply beautiful. For those, like me, who empathize with fictional characters, consider this your tissue warning.

The guide at the end may be better in the paperback form. The advice went by too quickly for me to take it in, and much of it seemed to be things I had heard before. Good, Biblical reminders, nonetheless.

I definitely recommend this book. Whether you have gone through the exact struggles or not, it will leave you refreshed and encouraged.

Good Second book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Feast to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version. I like audiobooks they seem to really bring a story to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Virginia I really could relate to her struggles with dealing with Faith and the times when it seemed God didn't have a lot to say.

Which scene was your favorite?

I won't say why because I don't want any spoilers but I really liked it when they talked about the letters that her husband found.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I wanted to but I'm not sure I did. With ringing phones and barking dogs it's hard to keep going, but it's a good quick listen and makes the time go by fast.

Any additional comments?

The Narrator did a wonderful job I really enjoyed listening to her tell this story.

Another wonderful story!

This was a sweet continuation of Virginia's story. The struggles, frustrations, & victories were so utterly relatable. This is a parable every woman can relate to.

The Feast

A really short book with no real ending. I was disappointed. Maybe there is more to this story.
