About this listen
Contacted by his old friend and former lawyer to the mob, Frank Kagan, Bekker takes on a new assignment, that of investigator for Kagan and another old friend and former prosecutor, Carly Simms.
Simm’s partner, Campbell Crist, daughter of deceased mobster Eddie Crist and owner of the local, minor league hockey team has a problem. Three of the team’s players, triplets, have been arrested for the murder of a young woman found drugged in their rented house on the water.
The Hays brothers, all named Rober in one form or another, claim to have awoken from a night of drinking and partying with the team after making the state finals only to find the murdered girl on their sofa. They have no alibi or motive and Bekker is hired by Kagan and Simms to find out what happened. To the world, the Bobs appear as simpletons, incapable of completing a sentence.
Bekker tries everything to jar the Bobs’ memory. Polygraph tests to Hypnosis. While under hypnosis, the Bobs reveal that a teammate named Donny Prichard may have been at the party uninvited.
Prichard is a young man full of hate for the Bobs. Prichard feels they took his spot on the minor league team and is arrested and put on trial alongside the Bobs.
The trial begins. To Bekker, something just isn’t right. A detail or clue was missed. Something that could bring the whole thing down if only he knew what it was. Once Bekker uncovers the secret to the deadly puzzle, his own life is very much in danger.
