About this listen

The war between witches reaches its terrifying climax in the final book in Wall Street Journal bestselling author J.D. Horn’s spellbinding trilogy.

Once caged in an illusory realm by blood relatives, Alice Marin has been freed into a world where the last remnants of magic are quickly passing away. Dissolving with them is the unity among witches…and their sanity. Grappling with the revelations of her true parentage - and her burgeoning relationship with Nathalie Boudreau, a psychic with her own demons - Alice and her allies, both living and dead, must draw on every skill they possess. It’s the only way to defeat the destructive forces borne of the horrifying history of Alice’s own family. That means unlocking the final secrets of The Book of Unwinding.

Now, on the longest night of the year, the streets of New Orleans will become a battleground as Alice and the few she can trust engage in a war amid the final days of magic. But the revelations that lie ahead may be too dark to escape.

Great series - ending a bit confusing...

Rather confusing ending to a great story. I may have to listen to it again to see if I missed something significant the first time through...

Twisted and pretty dark, but it was wrapped up

Whoa, this series was complex. not only were there quite a few players to keep track of in the corporeal realm, I was never sure who or what other entities might be piggybacking, or at the very least, influencing their actions throughout the story. It got a bit muddy at times, but the tension kept me intrigued and engaged. I wasn't sure how the threads of the story could be tied up in one final installment, but I was satisfied in the end despite the crazy dark ride it took to get there. Dating myself, it was a bit reminiscent of some of the trippy movies that came out in the 90's like the Hellraiser series, In the Mouth of Madness and Event Horizon, where realities fold in on themselves and become meaningless. It was a perfect, atmospheric listen for Halloween.

A Purrrrfect Conclusion

A great conclusion to a wonderful series. A great follow up to his Savana series too.

Truly enjoyed this

This is the conclusion of the trilogy, and it ties up everything nicely. A few twists and turns that surprised me but they were pleasant surprise's. All in all a good read and worth every minute. I highly recommend this trilogy of books

Beautiful, talented writing

Overall an interesting read, just kinda slow and overly complicated. But the writing itself was very beautiful.

My favorite of the three

The narrator seemed to finally get it right. I could hardly stand to listen at first, cringing with every mispronunciation. Maybe I just got used to it.

The story felt richer as the series progressed. I loved the characters by the end. Well written, though sometimes confusing at times. That was by design I’m sure.

I highly recommend the series.

Want Moooore! Much more

Gripping. Loved it. The whole series from start to finish. Won’t write much else because it will all sound like hyperbole. Well deserved hyperbole, for certain. A new favorite author who I hope is as inspired to continue as I am to read.

Or, listen. The narrator for this series was fantastic, too.

If I have one pet peeve, though (and it is small and might not even be incorrect for all I know), it is how she pronounces the word “Loa,” usually pronounced in French, sounding like “Lwa.” Our narrator’s pronunciation is “Lo-wow” (like Shamwow) and it jolted me every time I heard it which is often in this series. It’s insignificant. Silly, really, and doesn’t detract from the brilliant, complicated story and wonderful characters.

Third book a disappointment

The first 2 books were good but the 4rd one just couldn't hold my interest.

what just happened

I am trying to figure out what the heck just happened. It seems like the Author just got tired of the story and wrote anything just to tie up the storyline.
