 Taya’s birth was not a cause for celebration. Her honoured father, as the First Priest, had one task, to sire the next male heir. A task he failed. At first the disappointment her birth caused puzzled Taya. She had read the sacred texts, and nowhere did it say the Promised One had to be a male. Her father had a mere spark of power while she felt it flowing through her like a fountain.
Even before she understood the need for secrecy, she hid her powers from everyone. Her many tutors expected nothing from her so were not disappointed. But Taya was fifteen now and she flet changes were coming. Forces she did not fully understand were set against her. The High Council had taken control of the country. Only Taya could stand in their way.
When it is announced that the High Council are coming to the Temple, Taya senses they have made their plans. Plans that no longer include her. If she is to survive and try to wrest control of the country back from them, she would need allies. But who could she trust? Who would follow a girl?
