About this listen

What would you do if you felt like you were dying and the only thing that could save you was the very thing that was killing you?

Persia Chandler doesn't know the meaning of the world struggle. After the arrest of her notorious father, she is whisked away from Harlem, the only place she has ever called home, to be raised in an affluent neighborhood in Long Island City. Her mother and stepfather shower her with the best that life has to offer. During her senior year in high school, she convinces her parents to let her transfer from Catholic school to attend public school. That is the start of her problems - but it's hardly the end. In her new school, Persia is reunited with the friends she was forced to move away from and starts to drift further and further from the life her mother and stepfather have built for her. To the sheltered Persia, the Harlem underworld is like one big adventure. Things promise to get even more interesting when she starts dating a dealer named Chucky. He introduces her to his world of sex, money, and drugs, dragging Persia along with him on a long and bitter ride into the bowels of addiction.

Good story

As always Kwan delivers a great story. I'm so sick of Chucky. The only complaint is the narrator I love Cary Hite doing Kwan books. But other than that this is a must read. I was glad True made an appearance I wonder where Karyn at? I'm bout to start pt 2

Interesting. I could've finished the book in one day, instead I paced myself and enjoyed it over several days.

Really good book.

I can't wait to listen to part 2. Kwan is becoming one of my favorite authors.

I enjoyed this story but it was slow @ the beginning. Turned out to be a pretty good story.

I was even telling my husband about it and he was like wow you're super invested. that darn baby girl, I guess I remember how it is to be 17 but there is a such thing as doing too much! now on to book two, I don't even know if I can take it LOL

Yessssssss!!!! Like no other

Love this book, you really have to read the hood rat series to remember don b and his label especially the rapper tru and how the team got killed off one fuckup…. Man I get so sad everyone they mention tru even in hoodlum… Man I love K’wan, and how he knows to give it to us raw no added thoughts and emotions just real street art and I appreciate it all. This book is real good and we either know someone, or experienced someone like these characters in the book. I always fall for the supporting characters (role) so I would have Omega’s baby real quick okuuurrrrr!!!

A young girl with a bright future

I like especially being born and raised in Harlem myself. I’m a early 70”s baby. It was like I’m actually there when places are mentioned in Harlem and being one who actually attended King High School. Can’t wait to listen to book 2 that’s already downloaded
