About this listen
An international bestseller!
One secret could destroy them all. The brand new dark academia debut for 2024 and a gripping tale of revenge, guilt, privilege, and loyalty, perfect for fans of The Secret History and If We Were Villains
“An intensely gripping, thrilling and darkly beautiful debut. I was hooked.”—Karin Slaughter, #1 New York Times bestselling author
We were always The Four. From our very first day at High Realms.
The four scholarship pupils. Outsiders in a world of power and privilege. And, according to everyone else, we were dangerous.
It would have made our lives a lot easier if Marta had simply pushed our prefect Genevieve out of our bedroom window that day. Certainly, it would have been tragic. She would have died instantly.
But Marta didn’t push her then, or–if you choose to believe me–at any other time. If she had, all of what we went through would not have happened.
I’ve told this story as clearly as I could–as rationally as I’ve been able, in the circumstances, to achieve. I don’t regret what we did. And I would do it all again.

With his newly minted detective badge, “Mac” McAllister reports for his first assignment with the Oregon State Police: a particularly gruesome homicide. It’s a headline case, as the victim - Megan Tyson - was brutally murdered mere weeks before her wedding. The investigation turns up far too many suspects and too little hard evidence. Why would the beautiful Megan, engaged to a wealthy businessman, be involved with the likes of long line-up of questionable characters that seem connected to her in more ways than one?

The tiny outback town of Nannine lies in the harsh red interior of Australia. Story
To coin a phrase, Josh is suffering a quarter-life crisis. He just broke up with his long-term girlfriend, lost his job, and moved back home with his parents (shudder). Welcome to rock bottom in Bristol. As Josh starts questioning all his life choices, he has a mad thought: Maybe he would just be better flipping a coin. After all, careful planning has landed him homeless, jobless, and single. But when the chance of a lifetime and the girl of his dreams are on the line, will the coin guide him to a rich love life or leave him flat broke?

Not for me
I was hoping for something lighter, maybe more Gossip Girl and a lot less like Lord of the Flies. Too cruel for me.

Disclaimer - graphic self harm & sexual abuse
Read half way because it was recommended in my book club. I found it very hard to stomach the graphic details of the subjects I mentioned in the title. I think it might be a good book for those who can stomach that. Not for me.
