This book dives straight into the grit of what it meant to follow Jesus back then. Stephen’s story set the tone right away, and Peter’s chapter really stuck with me. The way he chose to die... that kind of courage is hard to wrap your head around. I also liked learning more about the guys we don’t usually hear much about, like Matthias and Thaddeus. Their faith wasn’t loud, but it was solid. It’s not a long book, but it packs a punch. Definitely started some reflection on what faith looks like when it costs something.

As one who has felt disconnected from my faith, this book arrived at the perfect time. The stories of biblical figures facing extraordinary persecution touched me. As I listened to the book I reflected on their conviction compared to my own doubts. The historical details brought these early Christians to life for me - they weren't just names in sermons anymore. The detailed explanation of death by crucifixion makes me reconsider the way I used to think about it. Perfect for anyone seeking to understand the true cost of early Christian faith or needing inspiration during difficult times.
