About this listen

The Catholic Faith was formed by many things including most importantly scripture and tradition. But it was the General Councils of the Catholic Church which defined and shaped these beliefs into a tangible and understandable system of belief. Complex in their histories, they can be summarized to present the most important points of these grand moments in faith history. This audiobook gives you an overview and insight into a subject otherwise only understood through lengthy study.

It’s definitely an overview, and not a good one at that. The chapters are not well written and are set up in an odd order that doesn’t help comprehension. It assumes you know a decent amount of church history beforehand so it doesn’t explain things well and leaves out important details.

The absolute worst part about this is the narrator. I thought it was a poorly constructed AI reading but apparently it’s an actual person. The mispronunciations and lack of punctuation recognition is atrocious. I only made it through three quarters of the book before finally giving having to quit. “Pope Innocent the two” was one of the nails in the coffin.

Overall just don’t bother.
