About this listen

The third instalment of the Millennium Trilogy - which has now sold more than 26 million copies worldwide.

Salander is plotting her revenge – against the man who tried to kill her, and againstthe government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life. But it is not going to be a straightforward campaign. After taking a bullet to the head, Salander is under close supervision in Intensive Care, and is set to face trial for three murders and one attempted murder on her eventual release.

With the help of journalist Mikael Blomkvist and his researchers at Millennium magazine, Salander must not only prove her innocence, but identify and denounce the corrupt politicians that have allowed the vulnerable to become victims of abuse and violence. Once a victim herself, Salander is now ready to fight back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson has produced a coup de foudre, a novel that is complex, satisfying, clever, moral . . . This is a grown-up novel for grown-up readers, who want something more than a quick fix and a car chase. And it’s why the Millennium trilogy is rightly a publishing phenomenon all over the world.” (Kate Mosse, The Guardian)
“Solves the mysteries set up in the first two novels and explains how Salander became what she is . . . confirms Larsson as one of the great talents of contemporary crime fiction.” (Joan Smith, Sunday Times)
“So this is it. The final instalment in Stieg Larsson’s enthralling Millennium crime trilogy . . . If you’re a fan of the first two, you won’t be disappointed by the stunning ending. If you haven’t a clue about all the fuss, buy all three, clear a weekend and savour a master storyteller at work.” News of the World
“Larsson’s work is original, inventive, shocking, disturbing and challenging . . . [he has] brought a much-needed freshness into the world of crime fiction.” Marcel Berlins, The Times“I was completely enthralled by The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, the tense and almost apocalyptic conclusion to Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy.” (Anthony Horowitz, Daily Telegraph)

Interesting, but not the best of the three

I enjoyed listening to the abridged version of this story, mainly because I felt that the unabridged versions of the first two books dragged for too long in details and descriptions of the characters. It was great to be able to learn what happened to Salander, but the third book is definitely the weakest of the three.

Excellent!

Any additional comments?

One of my first listens on audible. Many books down this one still has one on the best narrators and a great plot. Very worthwhile listening to.

I did not under Slanader's accent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love the story although Larsson is a little heavy with details. I did not understand Salander's accent which seemed more cockney. That threw me off when listening.Otherwise, excellent

What did you like best about this story?

Blomkvistn seems to be the ideal man. The men like him, the women want to sleep with him and I was glad that Salander made her peace with him.

No, because I have so many other story to listen :)

no, this was the first.

Any additional comments?

I'm not native english. Beside enjoying the book very much, I listen to the story to improve my english as well. And it's excellent!

Excellent finale for the trilogy

Actually it's the first audiobook I bought. and I liked it very much!
Even the third part is still thrilling. Less surprising though.

The weakest of three but still couldn’t resist.

Seams more expected than the other two, I got used to the rhythm of the suspense and solution.

Stieg Larsson was a first-class story-teller

If you could sum up The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in three words, what would they be?

dark, thrilling and fascinating

Any additional comments?

The trilogy offers a glimpse into a dark but fascinating underworld, with memorable characters, a growing web of intrigue and subterfuge, told with masterful flair. It is a great pity that this was to be Larsson's last opus.

i didn't notice the ABRIDGED warning.

the sound and production are great. good quality, good narrator.. however, how could anyone miss out on all the other stories which arn't given here? why on earth would you bother listening to half the story?
