About this listen

A chilling DRAGON TATTOO thriller

Change is coming to Sweden's far north: its untapped natural resources are sparking a gold rush with the criminal underworld leading the charge. But it's not the prospect of riches that brings Lisbeth Salander to the small town of Gasskas. She has been named guardian to her niece Svala, whose mother has disappeared. Two things soon become clear: Svala is a remarkably gifted teenager - and she's being watched.

Mikael Blomkvist is also heading north. He has seen better days. Millennium magazine is in its final print issue, and relations with his daughter are strained. Worse still, there are troubling rumours surrounding the man she's about to marry. When the truth behind the whispers explodes into violence, Salander emerges as Blomkvist's last hope.

A pulse-pounding thriller, The Girl in the Eagle's Talons sees Salander and Blomkvist navigating a world of conspiracy and betrayal, old enemies and new friends, snow-bound wilderness and the global corporations that threaten to tear it apart.

Critic reviews

Lisbeth Salander is back - and maybe better than ever. Karin Smirnoff's take is both respectful of the past and ready for the future - altogether remarkable. (Lee Child)

Fresh, fearless, faithful and original. Karin Smirnoff takes on a heady challenge and makes a stylish, exciting and truly worthy statement. One of the great crime series of our time could not be in safer, more capable hands. I loved it. (Chris Whitaker)

An absolute incident-packed thrill-ride from start to finish. Karin has taken on the legacy of a legend and done the series justice. (Jo Spain)

not as good as previous books in millennium series

Less well written than previous books, Mikael is not very much involved. Relationship between Mikhael and Salander very strange. New information about the far north of Sweden. Strange to have all the old protagonist in the same place by pure luck. Strange end with everybody disappearing and want to get away to forget no conclusion (yet).

Entertaining, but very simple, straight line plot.

The book is entertaining and has some decent points. But overall it’s predictable and very linear. No twists or turns, just a simple highway. Some ridiculous points too, like the moment they’re googling using a grenade… really? Lots of open threads which leaves me thinking more books are planned. Hope the author tries harder. The narrator is just awful. Sounds like she’s narrating the book in a monotone emotionless whisper. Had to raise the volume to ridiculous levels to understand her and pretty sure I missed a word here and there. Almost gave up on the book more than once because of the narrator. I might read/ hear another millennium book as long as Kajsa doesn’t narrate.

Great

Not the best of the LS books but still a really good read. Did not like the narrator at first, but she grew on me.

Couldn't even finish the book

I am a big fan of the Millennium series of books, so as soon as I heard about this new chapter, I preordered it. However, when it was finally available, I was hugely disappointed. I gave it a chance and forced myself to lister for longer than I wanted to, but in the end I just couldn't go on. The story is boring, forced into the Millennium history and just doesn't belong. And the narrator was just terrible. It sounds like she's whispering the whole time, with a monotonous drone that just goes on and on and doesn't engage you. I wanted to like this, but it was impossible. I couldn't even finish the book.

not worthy of your time

Althought an avid fan of the series. This book did not deliver. Really struggled to even continue listening due to poor writing. Super predictable plot, internal monologues of characters that make you want to vomit, the obvious but "accidental" intertwinement of characters, who were all very shallow and two dimensional. Even the dialogues were horrible.
The performance of the narrator only made things worse (they sounded like they were gonna fall asleep any second). It would be more enjoyable to read/listen again to the previous books. This one is a waste of time/money. Trully terrible.

extremely bad

The narrator is the worst i have ever listened to.
The story is also far from the level the other 6 books were at.
