About this listen
Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award 2014
Not every gift is a blessing.
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her 'our little genius'.
Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.
Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favourite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.
Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.
Emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end, The Girl with all the Gifts is the most powerful and affecting thriller you will listen to this year.
The phenomenal word-of-mouth best seller The Girl with all the Gifts is now a major film on widespread distribution starring Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton and Paddy Considine.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Not new but not old
I loved it! The narrator is really good, to bad she's only done this and the sequal that is for adults. The story is well written and the different points of view for the characters are interesting! I loved it and getting the sequal!

Well written post apocalyptic novel
Interesting introduction of a popular end apocalyptic scenario. A twist in the usual telling. Was hoping for a different ending but still an enjoyable read.

Brilliant
The writer kept me on the very edge, sometimes too disturbed too listen, but too intrigued not too. Great story, very well read.

Very unexpected
This is a very interresting twist on a well known genre.
I normally dont like this genre at all, but this book is actually good.
(Cant say the genre as it spoils a bit of the book.)
It is far from perfect, bit to graphical and expected at times.
But the medical theories and sience is very good.
I liked it.
The narrator is very good.

Wonderful
This book is the proof that it doesn't matter what the subject is, what's important is the writing. If you have to choose one book to read this year, this should be it.

When U Thought Every Zombie Story Has Been Told...
I enjoyed this book so, so much. The narrator, Finty Williams is as gifted as her mother, Judi Dench. Really suspenseful story, written with humanity and artfulness that one might not expect from a story about zombies! Just when you thought every zombie story possible has already been told, along comes The Girl With All the Gifts. I am not normally a fan of this genre (I'm a fraidy cat and I don't go for the gruesome) but I am so glad that I read this book. I couldn't stop listening. And the end - wow. I did NOT see that coming.

Had the Potential to be so Much More
The book had a great story and a great progression. What the book lacked was excitement and climactic moments. It really could have been much better.

An excellent listen
I was really surprised, the book grabs your curiosity right for the start and takes some quite harsh turns which really gripped me and kept me excited throughout. One of the best books I've listened to in some time with a rich story of quite well developed characters and a very unique take on the whole zombie apocalypse. Top marks

Not what I expected... but enjoyable non the less
Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl with All the Gifts to be better than the print version?
It does add to the rhythm of the book
Who was your favorite character and why?
Melanie, obviously. She is very interesting, and changes throughout the book.
Which character – as performed by Finty Williams – was your favorite?
Dr. Caldwell - I could actually see and hear Glen Close in her portrayal of her.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
