About this listen

It began as a problem in one of Holmes' beloved beehives, led to a murderous cult, and ended - or so they'd hoped - with a daring escape from a sacrificial altar. Instead, Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, have stirred the wrath and the limitless resources of those they've thwarted.

Now they are separated and on the run, wanted by the police and pursued across the continent by a ruthless enemy with powerful connections. Unstoppable together, Russell and Holmes will have to survive this time apart, maintaining tenuous contact only by means of coded messages and cryptic notes.

With Holmes' young granddaughter in her safekeeping, Russell will have to call on instincts she didn't know she had. But has the couple already made a fatal mistake by separating, making themselves easier targets for the shadowy government agents sent to silence them?

From hidden rooms in London shops and rustic forest cabins to rickety planes over Scotland and boats on the frozen North Sea, Russell and Holmes work their way back to each other in the most complex, shocking, and deeply personal case of their career.

Mary Russell's character is developing quite nicely. Sterlin does an outstanding job reading! Bravo, brilliant.

...could/should be a movie!

I loved the story line. I don’t like a lot of fluff when it comes to mysteries.
Laurie uses a lot of long drawn out descriptions in this book that I fast forwarded but that is just me.
For those that want all of that type of description you will throughly enjoy this book. I love this series don’t get me wrong and I will be onto the next book quickly.
Jenny does another great job of narrating the story.

Great Story….but wordy

The second part of the story grips from the first and finishes with a satisfying blast!

One of the best!

This book is a sequel to The Language of Bees so it's best appreciated after reading The Language of Bees. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters (of which there are many) and the humor, particularly the dialogues between Russell and Holmes. Stein does an outstanding job with the voices of Holmes and Russell but her accents for her American characters in this book and the preceding books in the series are annoying because they just don't sound right. I grant that some Americans have a drawl but that's not the case with most of them and ALL of Stein's American voices have a drawl. It's not as big a problem in this book because there's only one American character.

One of my favorites!
