Another Great Trivia Book

Here's yet another great book of trivia, this time dealing with Ohio. I love Bill O'Neill's trivia books. He does his research to bring the reader/listener great trivia that they may not know. I've listened to quite a few of Mr. O'Neill's trivia books and love the way he gives the facts in snippets and hits the key notes of the topic. If you enjoy trivia or just learning more about the states then you should check out his books. The narration is done well. Scott Miller has a clean and clear voice and reads at a really nice pace. Overall, an entertaining and fun way to learn about Ohio.

Discover WHY Ohio Is at the Heart of It All

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Ohio is truly at the heart of it all. The information, factoids and stories found in this book about Ohio will have you saying "I didn't know that !" Everyone will be attracted to state due to the diversity of amazing info. Topics include ghost stories, unsolved mysteries, 6 US presidential birthplaces info, food businesses that had their start in Ohio like Arby's, Wendy's, Skyline Chili, Kroger's, Bob Evans, Buffalo Wild Wings as well as Big Lots AND much more!
The audio performer does a great job reading the book with enthusiasm and promotional clarity. The author presents the geographical facts that Ohio is truly in the center of the population of a big portion of the US population. So take advantage of Ohio's closeness to you, educate yourself on Ohio by listening to this book and plan an Ohio trip!
One note of correction. The author starts out the book by stating that the state of Ohio is home to the Ohio River. Being born a West Virginian, I can confirm that the state of West Virginia owns the Ohio River. The state of Ohio's border line is the west shoreline of the river. Ohio can claim namesake rights only.

More learning made fun

This is the ninth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I grab everything of his I get offered. I’ve liked everything I’ve listened to.
I especially liked the list of outdated laws, and history of play doh.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Scott Miller ) and I would listen to another. He did well reading this content, helping to keep things flowing and interesting.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Perfect for Children*

This is the second book of facts I’ve read from Mr. O’Neill and unlike the first one this one has a lot more order to it; which I really appreciated! I listened to this with my toddler in the car on the way to and from school and she was engaged in it as well. The caveat is that there is one chapter regarding famous crimes that was a bit much for her so we skipped it (I listened later), but the rest of the book was great for kids that need to learn about a state.

The narrator did a good job with the material, but being an Ohio native, there were a few city names that were mispronounced, but then there’s people here that mispronounce them too.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to learn about Ohio, get a quick rundown on ideas for a book report, or just wants to have more banter material at a cocktail party. I can’t wait to read more states!

I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.

What fun!

I got this one because I have close family in Ohio, but it's great fun for anyone who geeks history or trivia. Find out why you want to know trivia about Jerry Springer, Oberlin College, where the first police car patrolled and how it was powered, where Superman was created, and what movies were filmed in Cleveland. How about the law against hunting whales on Sunday, what is the state beverage, the first traffic light and speeding ticket, and the first paid fire department? Its also an easy book to use to drive family and friends nutz !
The audio is very ably narrated by Scott Miller.

Neat Trivia for Someone New to the State

I just moved to Ohio and requested a review copy of the book to try and learn a little more about my new state. I thought this was a decent light listen that didn't require a whole lot of avid attention. It was GREAT for my morning commute since it didn't require a whole lot of backstory to just pick up where you left off.
I would say I already knew about 1/3 of the info, but there were a lot of new facts and trivia that I found interesting.

The narrator for this book was good as well. I'd put him at above average, but I'd like to hear him at a different type of title (such as a fiction book) in the future to really make a full determination. He did well with this book, though.

I requested and received a free review copy of this audiobook from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

Ohio's Turn

O'Neill continues on his American states series with Ohio. Now, as a Michigander (born & raised), I have an innate hatred of all things Ohio, but even I need to admit this was a good entry in the series. In all seriousness, it's a good overview of the roughly last 150 yrs of Ohioan history.

Audio: Miller has narrated a few of O'Neill's other titles, and brings his same quality here. I still wish they added in an additional effect or a different pronunciation to differ between the main text, headings and sub headings; but that's a small quibble.

Recommended for: American history nerds
