Publisher's summary

This anthology of Kipling's most famous poems - including "If", "Mandalay", "Gunga Din" - is taken from Naxos AudioBooks' Great Poets series. Though sometimes still regarded as a product of the colonial era, Kipling touches a very popular nerve in Britain's literary tradition and is regarded more generously now as a master of popular verse. It is often forgotten that he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907.

Editorial reviews

As poetry often is read aloud in schools and at poetry slams, many listeners may have high standards for spoken verse. Happily, this fine production meets those expectations and reminds us that poetry is meant to be read aloud. Three very different but excellent readers present all of Kipling's standards in this beautifully packaged presentation, including "If," "Danny Deever," "Gunga Din," "Mandalay," and "Boots." Even some lesser-known works, such as "Gods of the Copy Book," appear. Each of the able narrators manages to sound different from poem to poem, matching the pacing and the tone of the contemplative pieces, as well as the rousers. This is a reminder of why many of Kipling's lines have become part of our lexicon.

Well done

I always keep this downloaded to my phone. Well done with multiple narrators. Has renditions of some of his best short works. And Kipling is great, so this is well worth it.

Intense, wild, fiery narrative

The work is great, with the exception of one poem which was a bit disturbing and sounded like an angry tirade. Perhaps it was meant to but it was quite unpleasant. The other work is as my title describes.

Lest We Forget - Kipling.

I sit with moist eyes. The fashionable world looks down its nose and Kipling cares not a jot, but warns us in poem after poem that this is how the world is. Put aside all preconceptions and open your heart to a mind that can see deeper into our reality from his time than any contemporary.
Exquisitely read; deeply moving. Shockingly current!

Every student should be given this audiobook

Wonderful insights into people and life in general. My only complaint is it didn't include Stranger In My Gate
