About this listen
With a narrative that grips the reader like a detective story, Antonia Fraser brings the characters and events of the Gunpowder Plot to life. Dramatically recreating the conditions and motives that surrounded the fateful night of November 5th 1605, she unravels the tangled web of religion and politics that spawned the plot.

"Told with impressive scholarship and panache. The result is a narrative that is clear, balanced, and builds to its denouement with a sense of pace and tension worthy of a John le Carré novel." (Sunday Telegraph)

What was "The Gunpowder Plot" all about?
What disappointed you about The Gunpowder Plot?
A long winded and in places confusingly told, story of a foiled attempt to blow-up Parliament House in London in 16 ?? Already forgotten the date.
What was most disappointing about Antonia Fraser’s story?
Just far to much detail ploddingly read and totally unable to engage me.
Would you be willing to try another one of Robert Powell’s performances?
Possibly
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, I found out, finally after listening to the story twice, about the Gun Powder Plot.
Any additional comments?
This book is not a patch on later books by Antonia Fraser, and to be fair, was written years before the more recent ones that I have listened to and thoroughly enjoyed. Maybe Ms Fraser received some advice from an editor over the tears.
