About this listen

The complicated history of the Brandt Mansion has been long forgotten.

Few in the small, remote town of Tibbetts, Connecticut even remember the estate and the insidious events that took place years earlier. Struggling with writer’s block and a tight deadline for his new novel, David Pragmore suggests a retreat away from Hartford to his wife, Susan, in order to find fresh inspiration. The publishers want David’s new book to shine in the horror genre, so when David reads about the odd manor with a haunted past, it seems like the perfect place to recapture his muse. But David and Susan quickly discover that some stories aren’t meant to be told.

Overall was good, narration and plot, with a good characters. Have read others by author that I enjoyed more.

I wish I could give a review on the book in its entirety, but I just can't. I could not make it past the 4th chapter. The reader was breathy and put emphasis in odd places. She also puts Brandt in a hard sell every time she says it. Almost like she is thrusting the name in your ear everytime she says it.
I agree with the previous comments about the book being 90% internal dialog and commentary. I do not remember anyone speaking in the 4 chapters I barely made it through.

Unimpressed

Good ghost/mystery story. Narration was not good. Weird pauses and cadence. And why is it called Brandt Mansion in the title when it's called Brandt Manor throughout the book.?

Story good, narration not so much

I thought this book was just OK. I had a difficult time getting into it. There were only a few scenes with any haunting type things going on. I thought the narrator was OK but wasn’t very smooth. I expected more.

I was given this book at no charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. This review is my own opinion.

The author wrote a book with VERY LITTLE dialogue. Chapters went by with 99% of the text as internal musings or history. The book was just plain boring because of this problem. There HAS to be conversations to move a story along. There was a massive info dump during the 3 prologues. The couple should have found all this info out after they moved into the Manor from people of the town. I just fast forwarded most of the book to how how it ended.

Too much internal dialogue.
