Publisher's summary

Egypt 2153 BC: 80 priests set out under cover of darkness with a mysterious object....

Albania, 1986: A plane takes off bound for the Sudan. Somewhere over the Sahara it disappears....

The present: a mummified corpse is discovered in the dunes with a roll of camera film and a clay obelisk inscribed with a hieroglyphic sign....

Three unconnected events - or so it seems.

Adult situations

I enjoyed listening to this book. The story was good and it kept me guessing. But, the first part of the book has a lot of Adult Situations. I almost stopped listening because there was a lot of vulgarity and brutality. I can handle some violence, most mysteries and thrillers have violence but the language and violent sexual situations were off-putting. I think books need ratings like movies and tv. This is an R-rated book. I will probably listen to another of this author's books but now I know what to expect.

Paul Sussman writes great books and narrator

Another enthralling book from Paul Sussman, excellently narrated by Gordon Griffin, it is a top tier effort. Featuring an American rock climber mourning the death of here sister, an Egyptollogist who used to work for British Intelligence as well as a host of suspicious and shady characters, this one combines adventure, mystery, suspense and betrayal and represents good value. I now have only one more book left to read from Paul Sussman and I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Fun adventure story.

Would you try another book from Paul Sussman and/or Gordon Griffin?

Maybe

Has The Hidden Oasis turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Would you listen to another book narrated by Gordon Griffin?

Yes

Could you see The Hidden Oasis being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Overall I thought the story was good. What irritated me was the lead female character being represented as emotionally weak at times even though the character is a world class rock climber.

Fantastic, fast-paced Thriller

Don't even try to guess what will happen next. This was one of the best thrillers. I couldn't put it down. The last five hours are absolutely amazing--better than Indiana Jones! The narrator was great as well.

Hot and Heavy in Egypt

I found this a highly entertaining historical thriller. Well researched ( with abit of whimsy and license of course ), the action rolls along, and there were enough twists and turns to keep interest.
It's always kind of fun to hear an English narrator emulate American accents, but not distracting.
Recommended.

Thriller and Egyptian Archeology Collide

A big story…lots of excellent ancient folklore. Interesting and complex characters with surprises. Sussman does these so well.

Well read. Implausible last third of book.

While the first half to two-thirds of The Hidden Oasis develops an interesting dual plot, the rest of the book contains scene after scene of last minute near-death escapes by the hero and/or heroine. Couple that with science fiction goings-on in an imaginary Egyptian tomb, I imagine it must have been difficult for the narrator to keep a straight face as he trudged through to the end of the story, despite his excellent effort to keep the reader's attention.

Too bad.

It seems that when the authors characters and story are week they revert to graphics sexual scenes. That is true of this story. Too bad.
