Publisher's summary

The radio dramatisation of The Hobbit became a classic when it was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1968 and it continues to delight today.

Tolkien's famous saga, the prelude to the Lord of the Rings, has all the ingredients of fantasy and adventure: dwarves, elves, goblins and trolls, a fearsome dragon, a great wizard, a perilous quest, and a dramatic climax. At the centre is the unsuspecting hero Bilbo Baggins, a home-loving unambitious Hobbit who is suddenly thrust into the biggest, indeed the only adventure of his life.

Audio quality isn't the best

Honestly, I had a horrible time trying to find the right volume for this book. The music often overpowers the voices, and the whispers are indecipherable. I'd like to insert one of those, "Headphone wearers beware," statements from Instagram, because the yelling can be painfully loud if you have the volume set for the normal dialogue.
I really would have loved this version if they would adjust the volumes of the voices.

Really enjoyed it

While the name pronunciation is inconsistent, once you get past that, the dramatizations is great!

this is an awesome narration of the book.

This is an awesome narration of the book. it's more like you're watching the movie rather than listening to a book.

A nice listen

I like all the music in this audio book, and how the voices have a great expression.

Difficult to follow

I have read the book many years ago, so I am familiar with the story. Despite this I found it difficult to follow the story. The volumn changed dramtically and voices were not always clear or easy to follow.

Decent.

I have always enjoyed the story of The Hobbit. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors. The dramatized version was very good to listen to because of the voices and and more alive it seemed with the different sounds and actions. Although, it was a little hard to understand at times because all of the multiple sounds that were happening. One has to kind of listen carefully in some areas of the read.

Commendable enough

I guess it's less likely to put me to sleep than others, and hearing 2 voices taking turns to narrate can be funny enough, but the way the names of Gandalf, Thorin, and Gollum left a lot to be desired.
I recommend this on the whole, though.
