About this listen

The growth of information makes for an ever-changing world. However, the importance of Scripture remains unchanged. To ensure the enduring value of inspired sacred texts, Friendship Press, together with the National Council of Churches and in partnership with the Society of Biblical Literature, has undertaken the careful task of updating the NRSV Edition of the Bible. We are pleased to present you with what we can in full confidence call the world’s most meticulously researched, rigorously reviewed, and faithfully accurate English-language Bible translation.

You will find that this NRSV Updated Edition (NRSVue) is the most extensively updated English-language Bible translation available on the worldwide market to date. Recent scholarship has been applied to ancient texts to help listeners explore the meanings of ancient texts in light of the cultures that produced them. The NRSV Updated Edition is intended to be as literal as possible so that the meaning of scripture can be as clear as possible to the fervent lay person as it is to the dedicated biblical scholar. As stewards of the NRSV Updated Edition, we invite you to join the journey of exploration with all the passionate attention and consideration that sacred Scriptures richly deserve.

NRSVue as a translation, and Michael Beck as the reader.

I'm new to the faith and have been reading the Bible in a different translation every day, trying to find the one that is easy to read and connect with. I just kept going back to the NRSVue. From the little Hebrew I know, the implications of using gendered language in English (an ungendered language) differ dramatically from Hebrew and probably other gendered languages as well. I appreciate the fact that the NRSV tries to keep that in mind—though it's not perfect, it's better than just ignoring that context completely like some of the other literal translations do.

As for Michael Beck, his soothing voice and the way he changes his tone keep me engaged and focused. His emphases make sense to me. I've been listening to this book regularly on spotify for a while and I just had to buy it.

Not bad. Definitely recommend.

There aren't many good audio bibles out there. This one has its flaws but without being too critical, its very easy to listen too. Not sure the translation is as good as they might suggest, but its a fresh take. Organized into chapters easy to navigate. Narrator is decent. Audio quality is fair. No major flaws. The treble is a little high but not usually noticeable. Its one of my go to audio bibles currently. Could possibly be in the top ten.
