About this listen

When Commander William Jern and his wife, Gayle, are given an opportunity to move into one of the spacious colonial homes on the Village Green, they jump at the chance. Only the Jerns' new dream home quickly becomes an icy nightmare, as death stalks them relentlessly. It comes unheralded out of the night, and like all of us, they are woefully unprepared. Regardless of his state of readiness, William Jern must face terrors beyond imagination in order to save his daughter, whose body has become a frozen vessel for a horror summoned out of the great Void. With the help of his son, Will, a boy struggling to find the courage to be a man, and an old woman who has foreseen the terrifying manner in which she will die, William will undergo the ultimate test to save his child.

WOW!

Just finished this audiobook and LOVED IT! Peter Meredith knows his horror, and it shows in this well thought-out story. Loved the characters, loved the story, total old school horror (I think the narrator's voice helped that also with a very old school feel), and to me that's badass! Very interesting how the whole story plays out, and I'll definitely be reading the other 2 in the series, like ASAP!
As most of us know, demons are NOT something to mess with! Check it out, I loved it! :)

Average story

Story, narrator was ok. The pace was ok. Was waiting for the pace to pickup. Not a lot of unexpected twist. once again not bad but not great.

Great but narration is horrible - females comical

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Haunted house story. Great character development. I caught myself getting very interested in the characters. Coast Guard family moves into a house. Previous commander's daughter lays in a coma. Cold to the touch. Same fate for their teenage daughter. Turns out to be a demon. It's a little choppy. Tons & tons of time spent on characters & then wham out of nowhere...........demon.

I am two thirds finished and seriously do not know if I can finish it. Good story. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE narration. If David Drummond ONLY did male voices he'd be great. ALL the females sound like comical whiney sing song hysterical elderly fairies. He could do great comical voice overs for any fantasy animation with little old crotchety characters in it. VERY annoying. Oh good grief. If it wasn't for the female voices I'd give this a solid four stars. I will NEVER listen to D Drummond again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

katie, cute six year old girl

How could the performance have been better?

no females in the book is the only way. He is HORRIBLE with female voices.

If you could rename The Horror of the Shade, what would you call it?

name is fine

Five Stars!!!

I love horror and I've read, listened and watched many books and movies in this genre. At 52 it's been a long time since I've been scared but The author and narrator have done an excellent job I was actually scared of my bedroom in the attic during this audible book and I LOVED THE THRILL!!! Thank you for that can't wait to start the next book in the series.

Predictable - Nothing new

I listened to 3/4ths of this book and gave up. It was derivative and not very original. Not very frightening or suspenseful.
