About this listen

This is the untold tale of the Yankees' break-out 1923 season: when they first played on their own field, when Babe Ruth broke out of his slump, and when the Bronx Bombers finally won their first world series against their cross-town rivals the New York Giants. Centered on the blood feud between John McGraw's Giants and Babe Ruth's Yankees, and filled with incredible stories of New York and baseball in what were arguably their greatest eras, it vividly illuminates how the Yankees transcended their earlier losses to become the heroic team New Yorkers know and love.

I love Audible’s selection on Babe Ruth and the Yankees. I have listened to just about every one. This book is really special because it is a deeper dive into a specific season of Ruth’s. The House That Ruth Built will give you game accounts, interesting tidbits about the city of New York, the fans relationship to Baseball, and developments in the game. Robert Weintraub does a splendid job of making this about New York Baseball because that is what 1923 was about, he doesn’t waste too much time giving the readers the Babe Ruth stories every book has, instead you hear about Ruth to that point and more of how he was viewed before he became the Greatest athlete in professional sports. I cannot recommend this book enough, a great compliment to follow up Creamer’s Ruth Bio. Audible find more of these historical season books, I want to see a book about Jimmie Foxx soon too!
