About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

When linguist and smuggler Sean Wren is blackmailed into a job to get some data off an ancient ship, he's not expecting it to be the Philosopher's Stone: a literal recipe for immortality. Unfortunately, he's not the only one looking. The undying Ministers, mysterious aliens that have ruled over humanity for thousands of years, want the data too. So does the Republic, the last free human government. To add to the fun, the map to the treasure is in a long-lost language, the ship's filled with dangerous traps and genetically engineered monsters, and the nearby star's going supernova in a few days. Easy job, right?

There's a lot that's good, the ship and the creatures within are all creepy and cool, they make good fodder and chasers. the world is interesting or I guess the couple of solar systems split between humans and ministers and I'm exited to see more.
the characters are good, nothing too crazy or standout but all decent for the roles they fill. The dynamic between the three main characters is good and that's definitely something I want to see more of and get a look at how it evolved without the threat of death.
Narration wise it's pretty decent if somewhat limited. The narrator has a good range of emotion but not an amazing range of voices other than the three main characters and a few basic southern accents.
One last reread by the editor might have been a good idea. The author clearly has certain words or phrases they like that pop up a bit too frequently or repeats things he already mentioned not long ago but otherwise it's a solid book.

Interesting combo of horror ship and sci-fi epic

I usually don’t listen to this type of book, but it was recommended by a friend. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. It is very well written in the nonstop action kept me hooked until the end. The story is very interesting. I also thought the narration was fantastic. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed

A bit slow about half way in, but fast-paced and fun! Audiobook narrator is fantastic.

This book has amazing prose. The phrasing just grabbed me. The Narration which sounded a bit odd at first, expressed the tension of the story and keep pulling me for more. This may be my favorite audiobook this year.

Great Gripping read
