About this listen

In the spring of 1933, more than 8,000 Jewish musicians, actors, and other artists were expelled from their positions with German orchestras, opera companies, and theater groups. Later that year, the Jüdische Kulturbund, or Jewish Culture Association, was created to allow Jewish artists to perform for Jewish audiences.

Here is the riveting and emotional story of Gunther Goldschmidt and Rosemarie Gumpert, two courageous Jewish musicians who struggled to perform under unimaginable circumstances and found themselves falling in love in a country bent on destroying them. A poignant testament to the enduring vitality of music and love even in the harshest times, The Inextinguishable Symphony gives us a compelling look at an important piece of Holocaust history that has gone largely untold.

SO IT MAY NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!!
Beautifully written and narrated by Mr. Martin Goldsmith, the author.
I have read many books about the Holocaust, but not a book that describes Germany and the life of the Jews in the 1930’s prior to WWII, under the Nazis.
If you are a lover of classical music, I highly recommend checking the app, “Berlin Philharmonics”
You can find the music pieces mentioned in the book performed by the orchestra. It is such a treat to see the different musicians play their instruments up close, which you can never see when you go to a life performance.
I highly recommend listening to this wonderfully written history.
My thanks to all involved for making this book available to us, JK.

A MUST READ

This is my first experience in Audiobooks, and I have chosen the best in the inextinguishable symphony by Martin Goldsmith, as the author and the reader of the book I totally enjoyed from start to finish, not knowing much about the holocaust in his words, he explained into the find job

Fantastic

This was wonderful. Usually Holocaust stories leave me depressed but this was a story that I had never heard before and the music was very uplifting. I plan to listen to it again. Another plus was that the author was the reader and his voice was pleasant ….gave the experience a whole other level. Also well researched. And I must disagree with those who thought parts were too long…I was totally immersed in the experience ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️

Beautifully written and narrated. A must read, especially for those too young to know much about the Holocaust. May we never forget, never repeat. A moving account of the author's parents love and survival during one of the darkest times in history.

Captivating story with great details about so many people, places and events that makes you feel like you were a firsthand witness at the time. Found myself having difficulty putting the book down. I needed to listen carefully as there are many names that were difficult to remember due to being neither a German or Hebrew language speaker. Highly recommend.

Vivid story of a tragic past

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Well written with the exception of chapters 12 and 13 whose redundant recitation of editorials breaks the rhythm of the story. The overwhelming fault of the book lies not with the author but with the narrator whose German pronunciation is abysmal.

Good history. Poor narration

It really jumped around a bit to much for my taste. I got lost between characters and time periods.

Confused

I never realized the impact that music had during the terrible years of human suffering at the hands of the germane.

Surprised
