Publisher's summary

A heartwarming cozy-mystery series about losing everything, taking a chance, and starting again.

After suffering a personal tragedy, Abby Sullivan buys a huge old seaside mansion she has never even seen, packs up her life in San Francisco, and moves to Holiday Bay, Maine, where she is adopted, quite against her will, by a huge Maine coon cat named Rufus, a drifter with her own tragic past named Georgia, and a giant dog with an inferiority complex named Ramos. What Abby thought she needed was alone time to heal. What she ended up with was an inn she never knew she wanted, a cat she couldn't seem to convince to leave, and a new family she'd never be able to live without.

In book 10 in the series, Abby works with Lonnie and Lacy to uncover secrets long-buried in the mansion on the bluff Lonnie is refurbishing, Georgia meets a mysterious woman with a secret of her own, and a new group of guests check into the inn each with a story of their own.

In book 11 in the series, there is a new murder to investigate when a friend of Nikki's turns up dead. It seems that the death might be tied in with ghostly happenings at a new art gallery in town, but there are problems with that theory, as well. Meanwhile, a whole new group of guests check in, including a man in town to investigate a century-old murder and a woman seeking answers to her past.

In book 12 in the series, Lacy takes over as director for the local Thanksgiving pageant after the director they had appointed is bitten by a snake. The pageant seems to have met with bad luck from the beginning, but when the star is found dead in the trap room, Abby becomes convinced the entire production is cursed.

Meanwhile, new guests check into the inn including three half sisters, all the same age, who never even knew of the existence of their half siblings prior to the reading of their grandmother's will. Their grandmother left each granddaughter a third of her extensive fortune, but in order to collect the inheritance, the sisters must work together to find answers and make decisions in the 10 days allotted them to do so.

Relationships

I like the continuity of the story each time. The friendships Abbey is developing add layers to her life. The jump into bed immediately after she told Colt her feelings was a little fast.

The narrator needs to read more smoothly. She pauses everytime she is to say “I said”. It’s jarring. And she mispronounces several words.

Narrator

The story line is lovely, but Ms. Clark overemphasized descriptors which is jolting. This is the last series I will listen to where Angel Clark is the narrator.
