Publisher's summary

In our extroverted business culture, introverts can feel excluded, overlooked, or misunderstood. But being an introvert doesn’t mean you can’t be a great leader. Citing examples of highly successful leaders like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, Jennifer Kahnweiler shows that introverts can build on their quiet strength and make it a source of great power.

After highlighting the common challenges introverts face at work, such as stress, invisibility, and perception gaps, the book details a straightforward four-step process to handle work situations such as managing up, leading projects, public speaking, and many more. Kahnweiler provides numerous examples and leadership tips as well as a revealing Introverted Leader Quiz that pinpoints where focused attention will produce maximum results, The Introverted Leader will teach you to embrace your natural work style in order to advance your career, get the most out of the people around you, and add value to your organization.

Good tips, but dull delivery

What disappointed you about The Introverted Leader?

Author's tone when reading sounds scripted and non genuine. I lost interest about 1/2 way through the listen.

Superficial

How I looked forward to reading this book! I am myself very similar to the people studied in this book - I am a mid-level manager cursed with an introverted character. However, Dr. Kahnweiler is not opening any new horizons beyond the conclusions that could be reached simply through common sense. Some of the ideas are recycled from other self-development authors. No breakthrough ideas or deep analysis is offered by this book, the content is quite banal. By the time an introverted individual reaches responsible, managerial, position, he/ she knows most of what Dr. Kahnweiler is offering in her book simply through the experience. Abridgement would drastically improve this book, so no one has to waste too much time to collect a few useful grains of knowledge scattered throughout the text.

This is AWFUL.

Would you try another book from Jennifer Kahnweiler and/or Jennifer Kahnweiler?

No.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jennifer Kahnweiler’s performances?

No.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Stupid.

Any additional comments?

This is an important topic that needs a serious book written about it. Unfortunately a bunch of random anecdotes written by someone who isn't even an introvert does not work. Most of the topics she covers apply to anyone, not specifically introverts and are better covered in other business books. Really disappointed in this book.

Good for business!

If you are an introvert in a leadership position, this book is worth reading.

While many of Dr. Kahnweiler's ideas may seem like common sense, she packages them in a way that is profoundly useful. For example, she devises an easy-to-remember formula for introverts in leadership roles - the four Ps (preparation, presence, push and practice). She also includes a quiz for introverted leaders to help identify areas where they can improve.

Okay, so she might not be telling you anything you don't (sort of) already know. What she does do (and rather well) is take your abstract notions about yourself and help you turn them into concrete, acheiveable goals. That's good for business!
