Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of "thou-shalt-nots" found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guideposts to help us experience a good and beautiful life. These 10 ancient "words" were given to us by a loving God who longed to set safe boundaries, create order out of chaos, help communities live peacefully, and protect us - often from ourselves.

Story
When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them this prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord's Prayer to be a museum piece, placed on a mantel. It was Jesus teaching God's people, through his disciples, how to pray. In The Lord's Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught, Adam Hamilton guides us to really know—and really pray—the Lord's Prayer. He explores each of its rich lines and their meaning in the Bible, illuminating what we ask of God and what we ask of ourselves through its words.

How do we walk with Christ - daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. In The Walk, Adam Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices that are rooted in Jesus's own walk with God and taught throughout the New Testament.

Jesus provided his disciples teachings for how to follow Torah, God's word; he told them parables to help them discern questions of ethics and of human nature; he offered them beatitudes for comfort and encouragement. But sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine shows how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation.

Did Jesus have bad habits? In our culture we have a tendency to describe Jesus in ways that soften his revolutionary edge. Len Sweet uncovers and presents to us the offensive and scandalous Jesus described in the Bible. Did he disappear when people needed him most? Yes. Did he refuse to answer questions directly? Yes. Did Jesus offend the people of his day? Absolutely yes. Popular author and speaker Len Sweet examines the words and actions of Jesus and places them in context.

Story
The study of prophecy inspires elaborate timelines and speculation about which world leader might rise to power in the last days. But meanwhile, it’s far too easy to miss the significant prophetic signs contained in stories of biblical characters, in God’s creation, and in the lives and actions of today’s Israelis and Palestinians. This is your introduction to prophetic signs that God reveals in sometimes unexpected ways. He does not want us to miss the work he is doing to usher in the coming Kingdom.

How is the follower of Jesus to understand the words of the Old Testament? How are those words relevant to the New Covenant he is establishing? What might the words of the Lord’s Prayer have conveyed to his initial followers, and why is that historical information essential to the prayer two millennia later? In Sermon on the Mount, Dr. Amy-Jill Levine takes a detailed and colorful overview of Matthew 5-7, collectively known as Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.

Engaging Perspective
The Journey is a thoughtful story with an intriguing perspective. The author periodically paused to consider the situation, culture, and beliefs of the time. As a result I found myself in thoughtful consideration of the hardships and blessings that likely occurred on the journey to Bethlehem. I highly recommend this book and have suggested it to many friends and family.

Heads Up. I like this book but...
Since I cannot leave any posts on my Parler account, this is one of the few places I can exercise my free speech. I have canceled my Audible/Amazon account because this is clearly blacklisting. It is not illegal, but it is immoral. There are 75 million Americans who voted for President Trump because we saw this kind of totalitarianism coming from the left. His popularity has skyrocketed since 1/6/21.
We do not call for violence, but we do want fairness. If Trump caused the violence and lied about COVID then so have the Chinese and Iranian governments. Both have social media accounts and have not been even warned.
We spent all summer watching rioters burn, loot, and murder across the country and left-wing politicians calling them peaceful protests and encouraging more.
We watched as protestors clawed at the door of the Supreme Court while Kavanaugh was being sworn in after Kamala Harris called him a rapist, but turn her head on Tara Reid.
If you are watching this and think you are not affected by this, think again. When they are done with us, you are next.

Very good Christmas devotional
A very good Christmas devotional that made me think deeply about the Christmas story. However, I think the author assumes a little too much about the actual journey to Bethlehem. I disagree with some of the minor details, but I tend to place more emphasis on scripture than on church tradition. Nevertheless, this is a very informative and interesting little book.

Stunning, eye opening & captivating!
Adam Hamilton presents the “physical” journey around the “story” (that most of us have learned as children) of Mary & Joseph bringing God’s son Jesus into the world. His discussion will rock what you think you know. He will challenge what you believe to be how it all happened. It will even challenge the timing of it all on the calendar.
