About this listen

The fae are real, and Hetta Valstar is trying her best to marry one.

If Hetta and Wyn ever manage to marry, it will be the first union between Faerie and Mortal since the Iron Law was revoked. The mortal Queen has given them her blessing - sort of. Now, Wyn needs permission from the fae High King.

There’s an intensely personal reason why they need to tie the knot as soon as possible, and time is not on their side. The clock is ticking. Except in Wyn’s home court, which is trapped under magical stasis. To break the spell will mean venturing into the deepest realms of Faerie, where even fae princes - and definitely human lords - fear to tread.

Unfortunately, the fae problems aren’t limited to Faerie. Public tension is rising, and the reveal of Wyn’s true identity makes him and Hetta the centre of the storm. On top of this, Stariel’s magic is going haywire, and Hetta is struggling with her intensifying powers - and she might not be the only one affected.

The High King might be the only one who can help, since he’s responsible for the fae returning to the Mortal Realm in the first place.

If only they knew where he was.

Beware the bargains of the fae

Wyn: “I had not previously considered myself the damsel in distress in this scenario.”
This was a pretty good conclusion to Hetta and Wyn’s story. The family on both sides are in the mix,
but the majority of this takes place in the fae realm, which was captivating and strange.

Hetta: “I shall do my best to heroically sweep you off your feet.”
I’m bemused by the histrionics about the narrator change. After the first hour, I adapted and didn’t notice the difference at all. If I had a quibble, it was that Hetta and Wyn are still rather passive, always two steps behind and merely reacting. And, several of the reveals were obvious to me, although that could be due to the author’s well laid bread crumbs.

“Tell me about dragons. Do they actually make good godparents?”
In any event, it was satisfying to watch things unfold. I especially enjoyed the more interesting and outlandish supporting characters. Marius and Rakken in particular steal the show. It’s no wonder they get their own bonus book.

New narrator???

The new narrator threw me way off, not that I don’t like her, it’s just we already had a sense of how these characters spoke and reacted to each other and then the new narrator changed all that, but the story is so good I powered through to see what happens in the end and it was worth it!!

Wonderful Story.... Narrator not so much.

It is truly unfortunate that the narrator was switched for the last book. It just didn't have the same impact as the first three.

Creative and exciting!!!

Storyline keeps a hold on you! Narrator is terrific, she does an amazing job. I've listened to all 4 books and can't wait for book 5.

Great series but why?

I loved the series but...Why did they change narrator for the final book?!!. She was not as good as the one for the first three and made the final book less enjoyable than it should have been.

A change in narrator was jarring

I wished they had waited for the previous narrator to have availability. The performance was fine but the male voices were so incredibly different from narrationsthat it was uncomfortable and hard to get into the book for a time.

The Best Yet

I loved everything about this book, the change in narrator was weird at first but by the end of the book I didn't even notice anymore.

Narrator changes

I love the story. The characters were wonderful and entertaining. I enjoyed the narrator from the first books, immensely I would love to hear her. Read this story as well.

Lovely ending to a great series

It’s not the new narrator’s fault, but it was super disappointing to have a narrator change in the last book. Everything else, though, is a treat.

New Narrator

I was not happy about the change of narrator 4 books in. It took quite a bit of time to get back into the story because I was trying to get used to the new narrator and her voices for each character.
