About this listen

Embark on the breathtaking romantic adventures of The Lady Travelers Society in the brand-new series by number-one New York Times best-selling author Victoria Alexander.

Really, it's too much to expect any normal man to behave like a staid accountant in order to inherit the fortune he deserves to support the lifestyle of an earl. So when Derek Saunders's favorite elderly aunt and her ill-conceived - and possibly fraudulent - Lady Travelers Society loses one of their members, what's a man to do but step up to the challenge? Now he's escorting the world's most maddening woman to the world's most romantic city to find her missing relative.

While India Prendergast only suspects his organization defrauds gullible travelers, she's certain a man with as scandalous a reputation as Derek Saunders cannot be trusted any farther than the distance around his very broad shoulders. As she struggles not to be distracted by his wicked smile and the allure of Paris, instead of finding a lost lady traveler, India just may lose her head, her luggage, and her heart.

SlowMoving

Agree w other reviewers that the heroine and the story did not progress in good pace. Good performance though.

Who doesn't enjoy traveling?

Any additional comments?

The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen is an enjoyable tale where the heroine, India, takes awhile to grow on you. She is a "know it all" to the extreme, much like Hermione Granger is of Harry Potter fame. However, India's character really grows up throughout this story (despite being firmly "on the shelf") and she eventually learns to accept assistance when needed and warranted.

The hero, Derek, is a wonderful understated hero. He is well-meaning and firmly decides to put a stop to his aunt's and her friends' misdirected advice concerning the Lady Travelers Club, which got at least one member "lost" during her travels to Paris. These elderly ladies are all scene stealers and just great supporting characters.

I listened to the audio version of the story narrated by Marian Hussey, who was fantastic.

FMC is annoying story is uneventful

Spoiler (?) I haven’t finished the book, but I imagine the cousin disappeared to get away from the self-righteous ignorance of the FMC. Probably won’t even finish the book, sadly. The performance is delightful, it’s just a bad story.

Another Stupid Woman cast as the lead

As a woman of some intelligence I find this story inane. How does a woman who is so good at organizing and keeping another person’s life and business in order be such an utter dolt? And to top it off she has the audacity to be self-righteous, full of judgement and astonishingly rude. I’m baffled at her ability to sit with a rod so far up her behind. That being said I enjoyed all the other characters. Being that there are still 4 hours left and nothing has changed I don’t know if I could honestly recommend this book or would I indulge in the reminder of the series. *I imagine the aunt left to get away from her over pious self *

Quirky Characters, Travels, and FUN!

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 4.25

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

Quick Thoughts: This book was an interesting twist on the typical Historical Romance and I can't wait to read other books in the series. I will say it took a bit for me to warm up to India, she was a hard leading lady to like. However, once she starts changing so did my feelings about her. However, I really loved Derek the whole way through. With quirky characters, interesting travels, and a bit of mystery this was just fun and a great listen!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Marian Hussey /Length: 12 hrs and 10 mins

I don't think I have listened to Marian before but she was a GREAT fit with this story. She really did well with India and her growth through out the series. Plus, her "older" lady voices matched those characters to a tee! I highly recommend this on audio!

Couldn’t finish

I really just did not enjoy this book. I tried to speed it up halfway through and it made it worse, so I called it. Other reviewers are right, the leading lady is annoying as all get out. She just didn’t progress fast enough past that for me to be able to enjoy the book.

I got this in a 2 for 1 sale, and I will be returning it. Even if that means I have to return them both.
