About this listen

The Greek gods will regain control of Earth in seven days, but they suck at everything after 3,000 years in retirement. Zeus is blacking out cities with stray lightning bolts; Athena is falling in love with Google as though it’s a real person; and Dionysus is gobbling down more drugs in one day than Arizona State's entire campus.

In desperation, the gods enlist the help of Zeus's recent tryst with a mortal woman: an 18-year-old friendless boy named Michael, who's .002 percent god and 99.998 percent terribly average. Michael declines to help, but after Apollo afflicts his aunt with a plague while trying to heal her summer cold, he relents.

Michael crosses realms into Olympus and the Underworld, meets useless gods and finds murdered angels, rides white-winged horses, and feeds red-velvet cake to a three-headed dog.

But Michael soon discovers something greater and more sinister is behind the ineptitude of the gods, and unless he stops that force, the seventh day will come and go, and the entire world will go with it.

Percy Jackson for Grownups

This is a fun book filled with twists and turns in fantastic humor. A few of the directions it took had me stunned, but it never lost its wry satire and absolutely stunning prose. Each sentence felt so well crafted that I often found myself rewinding the audiobook to hear them again.
