About this listen

A boy's family travels to the Allegheny Mountains in order for the entomologist father to find an undiscovered moth he remembers seeing there in his youth. Over the course of the summer, the boy's sister, who suffers from autism, finds she can speak the language of various insects and creatures of nature, allowing her to understand the world around her for the first time in her life. And as the boy himself comes of age, he discovers that he speaks a different sort of language as well. As each person journeys closer to their true nature, tension is eased within the sometimes strained relationships of this unique family.©2005 Christopher Barzak (P)2009 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Critic reviews

"Christopher Barzak has written a marvelous narrative that left me pensive for hours. Impressionable characters, words 'like bubbles,' parallel tales of two remarkable lives....Phenomenal writing, how superb." ( Fictionwise)

yuck

I dont understand the high ratings. I kept starting the stopping this story. After a few years, I forced myself to the end. I admittedly did jump forward in places. I decided to do a review. The plot sounds good. The story starts out intersting. A young autistic girl and how she reacts with her world. Her family members dont understand but seem to accept. I don't understand or like how author involves her older brother. He's technically a child seduced by an adult male. Her father is obsessed in finding a rare insect. Frankly the only parts I found interesting were when MC was interacting with her surroundings. After my forced finishing, I wish I followed my impulse to return it. The reader did a good job. I enjoyed his reading even if I disliked the story.
