Four years after Dorothy…

Carnival thief Tippetarius fears she’s falling for her dashing, knife-thrower best friend—a man with more admirers in his arsenal than blades.

But the moment she finds the courage to make her move, an enigmatic stranger gifts her a golden key that sends Tip from rural Kentucky to the Yellow Brick Road.

To her shock, her arrival in this strange yet wondrous land activates latent powers—powers she never had back in her own world. Powers that get her arrested for being a witch.

Though how was she supposed to know witches were outlawed in Oz?

When her first meeting with the brooding Scarecrow King goes horribly wrong, Tip becomes hellbent on escaping the palace, the Emerald City—and Oz.

She’s taken aback, however, when the cold and calculating sovereign lowers his guard to confess that, with Dorothy gone and Glinda missing, he needs her help subverting a coup. Oz needs her.

Reluctantly, Tip agrees to feign a royal engagement with the king—and to pretend she’s a foreign dignitary who knows what she’s doing when it comes to being a powerful witch.

It’s not long, however, before she begins to question what’s real between her and the king…and what’s staged.

Especially when she does the impossible by breaking his curse, making him human again.

Just when she begins to wonder if there is some place other than home for her, though, home shows up…to get her.

I went in to this book totally blind, I was actually just looking for good audio version of Ozma of Oz. But when I saw this pop-up in the line up, and the fact it was free to listen, I had to give it a try. It didn't disappoint!
I love this new interpretation of the characters, and Tips relationship with them, especially Jack! I'm a sucker for the found family trope! And I think the mother son bond Tip, and Jack, share is very sweet, and helps balance out the romance.
All in all, I think the story is great, fresh, while still feeling very 'Ozy', it's clear that the writer is also a fan! But This book deserves an actual narrator, voiced by a real person, with sound effects, and music! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

way better than I was expecting!
