About this listen

Below Nadine’s medieval village, the fragile peace that dragons and mankind had died to forge, is about to shatter.

A power-hungry King bent on revenge discovers the legend of a darkened dragon heart. The story explodes into a plot to eliminate the church hierarchy that destroyed his mother. He must have a dragon hatchling.

Nadine wakes to the screams of her village being destroyed by dragon fire, as the last dragon mother exacts her vengeance at this cruel betrayal of mankind. And she takes hostages. The message is clear, “Return the hatchling or watch the villagers die in the ancient tunnels”.

Ripped away from an age of innocence, this epic fantasy thrusts Nadine into a world of kings, queens, and dragons. The stakes for victory are high.

The Chronicles of Nadine is an action-packed adventure series set in a time where the struggle for world domination is real. It weaves politics and religion into the lives of a series of well fleshed out characters, who call to each of us to reckon with our own inner demons.

This series has the complexity of Game of Thrones with the moral compass of Francine Rivers.

The Last of the Silver Wings, the first in the series, is an action-packed Medieval fantasy novel that speaks to our most basic fears and aspirations.

The Last of the Silver Wings is the action packed first Medieval fantasy YA novel in the Chronicles of Nadine Series.

If you like Christian fantasy and adventure this is a must for you.

This is a great story. The interlacing of character flowed so very well! Very multilayered and engaging!!!
The backstory give you a great perspective into the characters life and behavior.
I don't know how... but even the villians make you a bit empathetic for them.
Narration was top notch! Drawn you in and holds you for the duration.
The story. ending makes you say"awe- what the heck... where's the next book"

YA Medieval Christian Fantasy With Dragons

This was a fairly clean and fun mix of fantasy, dragons, Christian/Catholic themes, and medieval adventures. It has a great plot and overall pace. I really did enjoy the story and started listening with my 11 & 15 year old sons but about 40% in decided I should finish it without them (near rape scene***). There's a lot going on between different characters and some minor subplots and it does grab you pretty quickly and you want to see where the story goes. I do like the Christian element to it, the author does a good job mingling it into the story without making too preachy. I am looking forward to seeing where book two goes.

I did noticed were a several times that the pace slowed and became a bit too informational or stained in the writing, but being the first book in the series I think explains some of it... although I do feel like there were places that were a bit awkward and maybe just needs some extra help in editing/rewrite phase.

***Parents: PG13- This book has some potentially triggering scenes to sexual assault victims. It is free of bad language or overly graphic violence, and there is romance (mainly kissing). There are some scenes from the view of bandits and a very corrupt king with their thoughts about women and attempted rape scenes. I would place it as being geared for high school to adult readers.

The narrator does a good job with the voices - 3⭐. I found the pace a bit slow but turning the speed up to 1.25x helped.

Great story!

Beautiful story about dragons and adventure. I loved the characters and I enjoyed the narrator's interpretations of the different characters. Well-written and well-narrated. Highly recommend.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with a copy of the audiobook. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Great Medieval Story

I love Dragon novels and worry that the author will not meet my expectations when I pick up a new title to read/listen too.  "The Last of the Silver Wings" does not disappoint. Villagers are awakened with a shock when they are attacked by a very angry dragon. She feels betrayed by mankind when she returns from hunting and finds her hatchling has been stolen. Those who have survived the initial attack are taken hostage and this includes all of Nadine's family.  Nadine must grow up quickly if she is to save the Dragon hatchling and ultimately save her family. She lives in a medieval world of kings & queens where the struggle for world domination can turn ugly. There is excellent character development by the author. There is also a very descriptive narrative that some readers might find off-putting but that is what life was like during medieval times.  The narrator did a good job with all the the characterisations. I had no difficulty knowing who was speaking . If you like Christian fantasy and adventure this is a must for you. This is the first book in The Chronicles of Nadine Series. A solid 4 ❗I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

A great start to a new series

I enjoyed listening to this story... a medieval adventure that includes dragons. Nadine sets out on a quest to save her family by rescuing a dragon hatchling that has been stolen, but he story is so much more. Definitely a good vs. evil tale.

Kim Vermaak is so descriptive in her writing. I had no problems visualizing everything that was going on. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s to come in the next book in The Chronicles of Nadine series.

The narration by Amy Lovato was well done. I had no problems in following what was going on. An entertaining listen.

Not a bad start to a series

Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Last of the Silverwings is a good start to a YA/Christian Fiction Series. It seems to be a medieval history series set in an alternate earth with most things the same, except there are dragons and some soft magic.

I found the story engaging, and would consider reading the next book to see what happens. The prose was a little bit clunky, especially in the audio, but I still enjoyed it..

Narration was fair, but did not lift itself over and above, I was never confused about who was speaking and was able to listen at my normal pace.

Loved this story

Nadine's village was burnt by a mother dragon who was furious over the theft of her hatchling & her family was trapped by the beast. She was determined to save them by returning the baby dragon. On her quest she made new friends and some enemies as well. Rescuing the baby dragon from the tunnels was hard enough but the loss of Lady Christine's dagger was the worst. The evil king may search for them now. Great characters & I really enjoyed the narrator.

Good

A well thought story. I can’t wait to see what book 2 has in store.
I would recommend reading her prequel A Mother’s Warning as it helps you understand Lady Christine’s fear and anxiety that is displayed in this book. But you can still read this book without reading the prequel.
A very good dragon story. I definitely recommend it.

Medieval Fantasy!

Interesting merging of religion, fantasy, and dragons. There are many intermingling storylines but my favorites so far are Nadine and Lady Christine.

Ready for the next one!

Great Story. Too Gorey

The narrator was good and the plot was very intriguing...but I couldn't get past the fifth chapter because of the vulgar way the author described the bodies of the dead. I chose to read this book in the hopes of letting my kids read it one day, and it is no where near clean enough for that. Skulls burnt clean and oozing on the ground is definitely not ok with me. But the story was a good one and I really wish I could have finished it.
