About this listen

The Legion of Flame is the action-packed second audiobook in the Draconis Memoria series - an enthralling epic fantasy of magic, adventure and the furious battle to forge an empire.

Claydon Torcreek has survived drake-infested jungles, hostile tribes and the cold touch of betrayal - yet his troubles have only just begun.

The legendary white drake - believed to be nothing more than a myth - has awoken from its long slumber, with a thirst to reduce the world of men to ashes. One city has already fallen to the drake's formidable legions.

More will follow unless Clay can uncover an ancient secret that lies buried beneath the southern ice. Once again Clay must face unthinkable danger, and this time he carries not just the hopes of his own nation but the fate of the entire world.

I really enjoyed the narration of the first book of the series by Steven Brand.

So when I started listening to this book and found it read in a completely different voice, it was extremely jarring.

It’s not just the voice that is different, it’s the whole tonality and inflection and voices that had changed.

Not to say that Steve West is a bad narrator, but the style of Steven Brand was already firmly fixed and associated with this book and having second book read in a completely “wrong voice” kept me from enjoying fully first half of the book.

After a while, I got more or less useful to the new narrator, but the damage was already done and I just couldn’t enjoy the story to its fullest potential.

Besides, subjectively, the Steven Brand is much more interesting narrator than Steve West. At least for this type of story.

Story was good, but change of narratiiv ruumes the experience

The author ends almost all chapters on a cliffhanger, including the last ones. So wished I'd waited until the series was done.

Wait until book 3 is out

Good, but ends in a huge cliffhanger, hence my rating.
The narrator is too mellow, he cuts away any sense of rush and excitement.
