About this listen

Narcissa Whitman (1808-1847) was a missionary in Oregon Country and one of the first white women west of the Rocky Mountains. She started the Whitman Mission along the Oregon Trail. These are her letters and accounts of missionary work among the Native American tribes in the Columbia Plateau region in what is today Washington state.

The very people whom they had loved, healed, cared for, taught, and shared the glorious Gospel of Christ with eventually turned on them because of their false beliefs and murdered them in a very cowardly coldblooded way. This treacherous and unprovoked act of violence became their destruction and a fulfillment of the Savior's words they had rejected "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword. " How differently this story could have turned out.

Wonderful story of some great missionaries
