About this listen

Originally published in four parts this is the full story in one package.

When Hope loses her husband, she fears her happiest days are behind her. With her only connection to London broken, she moves home to York to be near her family and to begin to build a new life.

Taking a job at the antique shop she has always admired, she finds herself crossing paths with two very different men. Will, who has recently become the guardian to his niece after the tragic death of her parents. And Ciaran, who she enlists to help solve the mystery of an Egyptian antique. Two men who represent two different happy endings.

But can she trust herself to choose the right man? And will that bring her everything she really needs?

The brand new novel from Holly Hepburn, author of Coming Home to Brightwater Bay.

The book that keeps giving

A wonderful, cute read. Just when I think I’ve figured out the plot, there are lovely surprises and plot twists. A good read w/ a cup of hot chocolate.

Favorite narrator!

I have found many new authors by listening to all books by Karen Cass. This is another gem. I see that there are several books in her collection narrated by Karen and have already purchased them all. On to the next…

My favorite city

When I started this book, I hadn’t realized that it took place in York, a city that I’m head over heels for! Not only that, but the fictional Emporium is by the very real Little Apple Bookshop, on the very block where I stay when I’m there. I admit it - this sense of revisiting my best memories there definitely impacted my assessment of the story.

If I’m being real, though, I almost walked away from this book a couple of times because of how weak-minded Hope can be when it comes to men. I also have trouble with considering someone a best friend when he jumps to the worst conclusions and rushes to judge you, instead of listening and understanding.

With the audiobook, I was hoping for some of the rich Yorkshire accents that characterize the lovely people of York. However, with two rare exceptions (and one is Irish!), the vast majority of characters sounded like they’d just stepped off the train from London.
