About this listen

Amy Pearson's family is desperately poor - even by the standards of Edwardian Liverpool - but they have each other. Until Amy is torn from her home by her rich aunt, a woman obsessed by religion and snobbery who wants a girl she can mould as she wishes. Clever and pretty, ten-year-old Amy is perfect for her purposes.

It is the beginning of a long journey for Amy, as she desperately searches for the family she lost, and a home where she can be free at last from her aunt's possessive tyranny.

But she will have to endure a forced marriage and a tragic war before she can at last find what she seeks.

Deep & Emotionally Charged

This is by far one of my favorite stories ever! Any woman alive will appreciate the challenges & triumphs of Amy. Be ready to cry, rage, rejoice, and live the thrill of the redemption of true love.

Yes, this book is worth every minute.

From the beginning, the narrator captures your ear, and the characters capture your heart. Get ready to not put this one down until you have heard the last word. The story has all the ingredients - and, as all of my books must, ends happily ever after. I cannot say that there were not some very painful moments, but Audrey Howard does a beautiful job of showcasing the spirit of love, grace, mercy, and perseverance.

Engrossing

I was captivated within the first ten minutes. Very well drawn characters, beautifully written. The flavour of the period was well drawn and the actress who reads the audio is just magnificent. Her voice resonates with emotion and she creates the sense of a play with her different accents and voices.

love this story!

The story was captivating, one of my favorite books ever. I highly recommend this book. It's a bit long but the story continued to move forward and hold my attention. This is the third book I've listened to read by Carole Boyd and I really enjoy her performances. Bravo!

Narrator is far better than the book

This is fairly well written. The narrator is the very best available. However, the repetitive trauma of the story line is no excuse for a book.
