About this listen

From the award-winning author of For Today I Am a Boy, a gripping and deeply felt novel about a group of young girls at a remote camp - and the night that changes everything and will shape their lives for decades to come

A group of young girls descends on Camp Forevermore, a sleepaway camp in the Pacific Northwest, where their days are filled with swimming lessons, friendship bracelets, and camp songs by the fire. Filled with excitement and nervous energy, they set off on an overnight kayaking trip to a nearby island. But before the night is over, they find themselves stranded, with no adults to help them survive or guide them home.

The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore traces these five girls - Nita, Kayla, Isabel, Dina, and Siobhan - through and beyond this fateful trip. We see them through successes and failures, loving relationships and heartbreaks; we see what it means to find, and define, oneself, and the ways in which the same experience is refracted through different people. In diamond-sharp prose, Kim Fu gives us a portrait of friendship and of the families we build for ourselves - and the pasts we can't escape.

innovative and insightful

Each of the 5 girls who's pov make up the book has a different narrator that helps bring out the differences in the characters and the way they interpret and choose to remember what happened at camp and the rest of their adolescents. The novel jumps forwards and backwards in the timelines of the girls slowly revealing the full events to great affect. I appreciate how much the author leaves for the listener to discover and interpret without spelling out every cause and effect. This will definitely be a book I will have to listen to and probably read in book form.

A Rare

look into adolescent females. It was exciting to see how a traumatic event played out in the lives of the girls. Well done.

Good until the end

I enjoyed the story except for the ending. It just ran out of steam and ended. The character discussed toward the end was one of the most interesting, but we got nowhere near the detail as other characters.

Boring with an even more boring end

The order this book is in makes no sense. It feels like it should be leading up to something huge, but then it gets interrupted or that segment of the story ends. The end is completely anticlamatic and I was left with the feeling that I just waisted 8 hours of my life.

Horrible and misleading

I, like many, believed this book to be about a group of girls who went to camp and through a series of events were left on their own and how they managed to survive until rescue came. The camping part was contained in about 4 chapters. The other chapters dealt with the girls as adults and none of them were happy. What's more, the girls descended in a "Lord Of The Flies" light mode, at one point tying up the one girl and when she begs to be untied they refuse even though the ropes are injuring her.

It really wasn't the book it's being peddled as. I'd return it but I don't want to waste one of my return slots on this piece of trash.

Boring!!!!

The narrators did an excellent job but the story itself was awful. Even though. This traumatic thing happened to these girls, it’s like the author didn’t know how to capitalize on this very dramatic event. It could not have been more boring if the author tried!
